      Hi thornbirdskkk :hug
One thing occured to me - you don't have an awful lot to lose (lucky you) so perhaps it is time to move to OWL (I assume from your menu you are on induction still?) and find your CCLL or you might find yourself at goal while still on induction
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

I was under the assuption that on a low carb diet if the stix turned pink you were eating the right amount of carbs to lose weight. And I also thought if you were eating too many carbs then the body would release insulin and not alow the body to burn fat but instead burn glycogen for energy and store the fat instead.

But there have been times when I was in ketosis and at a standstill or gaining so I thought maybe I was consuming too much fat......I was eating for desert my cheesecake recipe every night as a treat...it was 1/2 cup whipping cream and half pk of cream cheese blended together with vanilla extract and splenda or equal.

I stared thinking that maybe my body was becoming resistant to this atkins plan even though from 2000-2001 I lost 60lbs. eating this cheese cake twice a week [ there is a lot of fat in this recipe]

I have since stapped eating this and am now back on the induction portion of the plan.

I was under the same assumption, pink or purple on the keto stix, staying within the number of carbs you need to lose weight. I just had my 6 month appointment with endriconlogist and she said that persons with thyroid conditions, myself Hyperactive, should limit the seafood as it has iodine in it and it speeds up the thyroid. I dislike all seafood so it is not a problem for me, but for those that do not have thyroid issues seafood may be a good choice. I was very discouraged as I had gained 4 lbs and have done absolutely no cheating since March 2005!! It is TOM but still I had expected to see some kind of movement on that scale. Needless to say, not a good start to the day :nono :sadblinky

I think I am going to get that book. Sounds like it has some interesting info in it with regards to low carbing and ketosis. I will say that I can relate to that quote personally. See, although I shyed away from ANA and returned to eating some carbs, I did not go over 100 grams of carbs a day and still lost weight. I went from losing like 3-5lbs a week to 1-2lbs a week. Much slower. I don't think the keto stix will even turn if you eat over a certain amount of carbohydrates. Anyway, seems there may be some truth to the quote. ensive

Ketostix measure ketones, which are by-products of fat metabolism. Like everyone else said, they don't tell you if the fat being broken down is from the fat you ate or the fat on your body.

I think you all are confusing the fat burning metabolism with carb levels. Each of us has our own individual carb tolerance level. Dr. Atkins picked the "magic 20" net carbs because that's the number the vast majority of people begin producing ketones. But in general, if you decrease your carbs below 100 grams, you can be in ketosis. This depends on a number of things (sex, age, exercise level, your metabolism, etc.), but it explains why some folks on OWL and Pre-Maintenance can still lose weight eating 100 net carbs daily.
