Hi,
it seems that wether I'm on Atkins or not I spend at least $100 on groceries if I don't buy carefully, and that's just for two people. But if I buy at Costco or Safeway and get the larger packs of meat it helps alot. Our Safeway very often has the packs of string cheese on a 2 for one deal. They keep for quite a while. Eggs are pretty cheap regularly. So I guess I would pick a dollar amount fits your budget and then just find a way to get your favorite foods within that budget. Having a extra freezer helps. I don't mind frozen veggies so I get the really big bags and it's much cheaper.

Let's see....for my dh and I and one 3 year old child (who doesn't eat much!), I'd guess I spend an average of $50-$75 a week at the grocery store and probably about $100 dollars every 2 weeks at SAM's Club. That's just a guess of course.Stacy

For me, I spend at least 40 dollars for 2wks worth of food. And most of the time at the end of two weeks I still have stuff left over such as cheese or condiments.
Granted, I am only 1 person, I am on Extended induction and I don't get bored with eating alot of the same things everyday.335/265/230

For my troop of 6 people, we spend about $100-125 for one week of food. We still buy a bit (ok more than a bit) of carb laden, processed foods for the kids, so our numbers are a bit higher than they should be.Kent - 35-M-6'4"

My Goodness things are cheaper in other states. I am in Nh on the border of Mass and for the two of us and our one year old we spend $150-$200 a week. That has been including formula but that is only $25.00 a week. Everything is more expensive here though. You can't even buy a 3 bedroom house here for less than $275,000- $300,000.

Hey shelby! I'm also on the NH/MA border, and I agree with you hands down on the real estate prices!! (Not sure exactly where you are, but Victory in Pelham has a sale on boneless, skinless chicken breast - $1.99/pound - ends tomorrow!)Originally posted by shelbyquinn03079My Goodness things are cheaper in other states. We also spend at least $100/week for the two of us. I end up having to go to the grocery store twice a week though. I need to get better about planning for the week and then buying everything I need. I also want to start buying meat on sale & freezing it. Today, I bought about 12 pounds of that chicken that was onsale and froze it because I knew I'd be kicking myself next week when it's $3.29/pound.

For our family of four if I plan well I can get a week's worth for $150. If I don't plan well it can easily get close to $200. Boneless/skinless chicken runs $5.99lb unless you buy the value packs and when they're on sale it's a good deal except the fat isn't trimmed off so I'm not sure how much of a deal I'm getting. Ribeye runs at close to $9 a lb so it's a special treat around here. We live in a pretty high cost area though. I've been looking at houses online because I think we'll be in the buying market around this time next year and it's impossible to find a decent one under $200,000. We'll probably end up spending between $200 and $250 thousand unless we stumble on a really really good deal."Only request in my behalf both inward and outward strength...that I may not merely be called a Christian, but really be found to be one." -- St. Ignatius of Antioch, Epistle to the Romans

We spend over 100 bucks a week for 2 people. I buy meat, veggies, cheese, eggs, and that's really about it. I've been looking for a way to cut down our grocery bill, but so far it's not happening. We also live in a part of the country where living expenses are high. Housing here has escalated like mad in the last 3 years. Many of my friends bought their houses for less than $80,000. Now the median price of a house is over $300,000. Rediculous.

Less than I used to spend on medications to offset the effects of eating crap foods!! Not to mention the co-pay at the doctors office...
Anyway, I think I spend alot less than I used to because I buy foods I have to prepare instead of the processed 'convenience' foods. In other words, we don't shop the inner aisles at the grocery store.

That's a great point, betty, and one that I think is overlooked. We need to stop being so short sighted and see the big picture. I know that I'm saving hundreds of dollars a year ($13/week, specifically) just by not joining Weight Watchers for NO RESULTS.Originally posted by ttdriverLess than I used to spend on medications to offset the effects of eating crap foods!! Anyone else want to share how much money they're saving since joining this WOL?
