  • Goodbye scale!!

    Seeya! :wave

I used to go to my doctor every few weeks to get weighed because I didn't own a scale.
Then my work schedule changed and I worked mon-fri, all morning shifts, so I couldn't get a 'true' reading (you know, first thing in the morning after the bathroom visit). So bf gave me a scale in early Feb...an early Valentines gift...lol (ordinarily you'd shoot your bf for a gift like that, but I was happy to see it.)

So today I asked him to hide the scale and only bring it out one day a week.

I have felt like I'm not losing...and that's because I'm checking it every day. The number on the scale doesn't make or break my day, but it's like watching hair grow...you know it's growing, but it's so gradual that you hardly notice it.

When I got it I was hovering around 155/156 and now I'm hovering around 148/150, so I've lost...but it's not as exciting as the twice monthly weigh-ins when there was the celebration of learning how much I lost. I miss that, and I've decided to go back to that.

Anyway, that's my big news of the day.

Heh, I wish I had someone to hide my scale (now that would make a very romantic personal add: "will you be my partner in life and the guardian of my scale?" )! I've been stepping on it constantly the past two weeks, cranky and frustrated, pretty much spoiling my days and driving the people around me crazy.

Now I've decided I get to have only one scale day a week and if I can't take the results then that one day a week will become one day every two weeks and so on. Scale-ism is an addiction!

Always good to know I'm not the only one :wave

Funny how your perspective about the scale changes as you progress through the 4 phases of Atkins ..

Induction, can't wait to see how fast I've lost!
OWL, weighing everyday hoping to see another pound gone!
Pre-maintenance, almost there .. trying not to obsess and weigh too often!
Lifetime maintenance, weighing everyday to make sure I am NOT gaining!

If your scale has a battery, take it out, bring it to work with you and give it to a co-worker, or just keep it in your desk or locker...give it to a neighbour. We decided that bf would just hide the battery...makes it all easier. :yes

Good for you about the scale. I got away from weighing myself at all for over 2 years. So for me, I have a hard time even remembering to get on it. I agree with you tho,, it takes more then a day to lose the weight, so why check everyday,, just once a week or once or month will give you the same results...

I've been back on for just under two weeks and have been weighing like nuts! I didn't have a battery for the first 5 days so didn't weigh then. But truth be told I was hoping to have the initial 'woosh' at the start of induction and to be able to 'pretend' I hadn't gained back ALL of the weight I lost on Atkins a few years ago. But now that I have the battery I'm weighing myself every morning and even at night (at night to feel like I lost weight overnight even if the number is the same the next morning as it was the norming before).

However, I think this is making me pounds paranoid. I feel let down if the scale says the same or a bit more than it did the previous day. I need a kick in the butt - I've lost 3lbs in one week. If I'd been eating the way I was before and not exercising I probably could have gained that much!

So although I like to graph my daily weight loss (I am a bit of a stats geek), I'm putting my foot down... on the floor. Once a week is all the scale time I'm going to get. And it will save me money - longer before I need to replace the battery!

Oh dear! I'd just love to weigh every week. Instead I weigh ever day, because my weight loss is constant but wildly erratic. I'm terrified that if I weighed once a week, I might be at an all time low one week then at an all time high the following week... so I'd end up miserable about it for the whole of the week to come.

So, now I weigh every day... take in the ups and downs... am happy when I hit a new low...but I average the numbers at the end of each week and really go by that. That's what works for me...

                  No desire to weigh...

I have no desire to weigh myself as I know if I am doing everything
right----the weight will come off (and it is). How long it takes me
makes no difference as I am in this for the long run. When I
eat like I am suppose to it magically happens

                    Obsessed

Ok, I admit I am obsessed with the scale. Mostly because I want to see my loss, but also and almost as important is to make sure that I'm not gaining. Monday I weighed in at 257, today I weighed in at 258, so I like being able to watch myself and so today I've tightened the reigns a little because I want that number to go down!

But I do know that it can be depressing when it doesn't move down, so I try to not let the "bad" numbers get to me.
