Atkins... with a South Beach twist?

  • Atkins... with a South Beach twist?

    I tried lowering my fat intake in maintenance. I found that I can do it a bit but if I go too far then I start feeling hungry alot more often.
    when I stalled,while still in the weight los phases, upping the fat seemed to restart my weight loss.
    5'5'' started atkins 1/1/04
    157-start weight
    125-goal weight reached6/3/04
    122-current weight

    However, you can do Atkins while watching your*saturated* fat. I have to do this for my cholesterol, and I think 2big might also, along with others. You still keep your fat percentages up there, but just control the saturated fats. Thank goodness for Fitday! It breaks down the types of fat to make this easier to do.

      Atkins... with a South Beach twist?

      So... yeah, I'm still in a stall.

      Ive read the South Beach Diet book. Phase 1 is pretty similar to Induction. I was wondering if anyone has tried intertwining Atkins with South Beach.

      For example...
      Eating lean cuts of meats, eating lower fat, etc...

      I was thinkig this could possibly break my stall. I've been stalled for well over a month now...and I just feel like giving up. But I am still holding on, barely. I drink a ton of water now..so I'm not retaining water.

      Just wondering if anyone's tried it.

        low fat low carb = messed up digestive system and weight stall due to the lack of fat. try induction again you should be eating off the induction foods list and having a stable ratio of fat/protein/carb

          I stalled for about 5 weeks at some point, came out I ate too little fat !!!!
          When I started using fitday and kept my balance at 65%/30%/5% religiously I started losing weight again, also I had been eating too little calories before that, so I was almost eating the way you said, although I didn't do it on purpose, well the message is: I don't think it will work.
          Have you tried posting some days of your menu so we can look at what you are eating together and maybe we see some things that you oversaw ?

            Hmm this is all so weird because I'm a fat hound. I eat everything fatty. I certainly don't think I wasn't eating enough fat... haha

              That is a myth ... if you try and control your cholesterol by limiting fats, your body will just make more cholesterol to compensate for it. I eat tons of fat and have low cholesterol .. its more genetically influenced than dietary ...

                  You're supposed to lower your fat intake during maintenance. As you added carbs during OWL and Pre-Maintenance, the fat % decreases. By the time you get to Maintenance, fat is about 50% of your daily intake.

                  In fact, as you become smaller, your appetite should become smaller too because your smaller bod doesn't need the number of calories your obese body did.
