I weighed in at fourteen and a half stone today. Thats a psychological break if you are counting as the Brits do. 203 lb as counted in the US of A.
I was eighteen stone eight (260) in the spring of 2004. Atkins has worked for me and I love it. There will be no going back - I just dont like sweet stuff any more, and I dont like stodgy stuff.
I stalled at 208lb for months - that was over the winter and the local swimming pool closed (not just for the winter) I have taken up cycling after a gap of nearly 40 years, and I love that to - exploring the leafy lanes of Berkshire. I will cycle 10-15 miles a day, and wish I could find time for more.
AND I am eating really well - lots of meat and salad. Celeriac is my latest find - roasted it makes wonderfy chips (what you Yanks can French Fries) I have Greek yoghurt or home made ice cream with strawberries. I have my own range of sweet(ish) and savoury flax breads or muffins and I indulge fairly liberally in Lindt 70% bitter chocolate or Waitrose (UK supermarket) own brand dark chocolate.
My target is 14 stone (196lb) which puts me at the top acceptable weight for my height. I have a pair of expensive trousers (pants) I bought in 1978. I never had the heart to throw them out - they were fairly close fitting then, and it is my ambition to wear them again. I can get into them now, and could wear them with a loose shirt of jumper, but I will wait till there is not a hint of a bulge above the waist band, and I can wear them with a tucked in shirt or Tee shirt.
O all this indulgence - all this vanity!
But I tell the story in order to thank all those on this board who have helped and supported me, and to hearten those who feel they have a daunting project ahead of them.
I repeat again what the Senior British Army Medical Officer in my local base medical centre said to me:
Do Atkins: it works.
