    Hey everybody,

In my church, we are supposed to fast on June 20, without any animal products, except for fish. Also, later in the year, we can't have any animal products, including fish. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about meal plans. And if it helps, if everything goes according to plan, I will be on Rung 3 in OWL by June 20.

I do this on Christmas Eve (day and evening). No meat. What I did was have canned tuna for breakfast, large salad for lunch and dinner was Orange Roughy and veggies. Pre Atkins, our Christmas eve dinner consisted of other things like homemade mushroom soup, homemade baked bread, homemade noodles, and perogies.

Basically I just grazed whenever I was hungry...just on veggies and canned tuna. Being on Atkins..makes it kinda of boring...but its just one day.

We do have vegetarians on Atkins and they find it hard but not impossible. Check out the faux meat products made by Morning Star, they are very good and have no meat. They are sold in the freezer section of the grocery store.
Also go down to the food foum and check there as there are many dicussions about vegetarian food

Tofu is good. I was given this helpful hint by a vegan on how to prepare firm tofu. Take the tofu out of the package and place on a clean dishtowel on a dinner plate, place another dishtowel on top of the tofu and put another dinner plate on top (like you're stacking them) and put a book (decent weight.. you want to squeeze the water out of the tofu) on top and let set for an hour or two. This gives it a nicer texture (in my opinion anyway). Tofu alone doesn't taste good to a lot of people so make sure you use spices and marinades.

For breakfast I like to chop the tofu into bite size chunks, dip into an egg batter with lots of cinnamon and a little bit of splenda and make it like french toast. For lunch I like to cook it marinaded in a good Italian dressing and then cooked in olive oil with bell peppers, onion and some chopped tomatos. For dinner I like to make the lunch version but add it to some chicken broth.

The soy burgers and gardenburgers are good too, just make sure you check the carb count. They make all sorts of yummy ones now-a-days. They also make veggie chicken patties and such. Check out your frozen section.

Are you allowed to eat eggs? If you can't have meat or fish, if you're able to eat eggs, that would be nice. I can make all kinds of stuff with eggs. Have you checked out the recipe section? Pau posted some good ones, and there's one there for these puff things that look yummy. (I think they have bacon, but you could leave that out. I don't eat pork so I always do.)

Well, here are the 3 rungs looks like rung 2 is out since cheeses are animnal products. So you will have the extra veggies and nuts. The day where you can have fish is excellent, fish includes shrimp, shell fish like oysters, clams lobster etc. so you have plenty of choices. The day were you can't have any animal products including fish I guess the tofu idea is your best option. Like another poster said, its only 1 day shouldn't be too hard.

No, we can't have eggs, but that'd really solve things if we could.

Sorry if I confused everybody. I actually ment we start on June 20. It's actually for 21 days. Also, the one without any animal products, including fish is 55 days, but by then I'll be in maintenance, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for all the help guys!! :wave

OH 21 days! :yikes That's gonna be alot of seafood! Hey, I'd be happy with that though, I love seafood! I could eat it just about every day myself. Treat yourself! Have some steamed crab legs w/ garlic butter, oh wait, can you have butter? that's an animal product too. :sadblinky Oh well, steamed crablegs with lemon juice! Make some shrimp kabobs. Grilled fish, or better yet blackened fish! Yum! Shrimp scampi--there are tons of possiblities! :joy Think of it more as an indulgence in seafood! :joy

Please don't take offense to this, but really you can just eat normal on those days... its not what a person eats that pleases God.

                      Haha..seafood all the way!!!

                      John_Morse,

No offense at all. It's not really the food that we stress, though. It's kind of like a spiritual excercise. If you can't resist the temptation to eat something like chocolate, then there's no way that you're going to be able to resist the temptation of sin. Also, there are lots of verses from the Bible about fasting, just tell me if you want me to get those.
