  • +Help....feeling like cheating---what to do....?

    Hey friends...

I was just saying a few weeks ago that I didn't even feel like
cheating...now I am eating my words! I am 47 f and have not
had a period for almost a year. Now BOOM...TOM here!
(I have been under a lot of stress lately--building a house)
I am CRAVING CARBS with a vengance.....What is the best
way to get rid of this beast? I don't want to cheat but went to
    bed last night craving sweets

Well you answered your own question kinda. Obviously its a mind thing. Any time you crave sweets, eat a fat/protien snack, drink plenty of water and walk away.

Its all mental! which means it can be easily defeated. Tell yourself that its not worth it.

OR, you can cheat, lose control and cheat more, lose all control feel bad about yourself...and you will....if you cheat. Would you really want to do that to yourself?

I agree with Fightingthefight. Cheating is sooo NOT worth it. I've been there and done that and paying the price for it now with regained weight I am trying to get off and recuperating from a heart attack last year which I obviously got from regaining all that weight (45 pounds) I had once lost.

I always feel bad after a cheat. I do not want to go *there* anymore.

As a 43 year old female I can sympathize with you. Yesterday was my first day on Induction and good old TOM showed up yesterday. I had some wicked carb cravings last night and could have cheated but instead I put the crap white bread my son loves into the fridge, ate some legal low carbs foods, had a cup of tea and watched almost 8 hours of old Beverly Hillbilly reruns (on dvd) to get my mind elsewhere. It took me well into 3 am when I finally went to bed...cheatfree.

Tonight if the carb cravings happen again, I have 6 hours of Bonanza episodes on dvd, that my sister gave me as a gift, to watch.

If you can get your mind off the cravings and your stomach full of low carb foods at the time you will be too full to cheat and too occupied to care.

When I get cravings around TOM time, I make sure I drink extra water, and will get on the phone and call a friend, that usually makes me forget about my craving. Sitting in front of the t.v., usually just enhances my cravings, because that's where I used to do my cheating before this woe!

I can relate. I thought I almost lost it last night, ready to binge. But instead I ate a small portion of cream cheese with splenda sprinkled on it as suggested by another great ADBB member. This was great. Completely killed the cravings. I feel better today and more in control. May be worth a try for you. I also chose to come check in on the message board when dh started to eat peanut butter sandwich, etc. See no evil kind of thing, I guess. Best of luck! :wave

Something else that's good to have when the cravings hit. I LOVE love LOVE flax bread! There are several recipes here and they are great! My fave is 2Big's flax muffins. Check out the recipe link above and you will find MANY things you can make to snack on and have handy when the BEAST (cravings) come at you! :nod

              Water

If you feel a craving coming on, or feel like cheating.
Run to the sink and drink a big glass of water, then take a deep breath and think about it.
