  • low carb pasta - Dreamfield's brand

I saw low carb pasta at the grocery store under the brand name of Dreamfield's. The box said total carbs per 2 oz serving is 42g. 4g is fiber. But the box also said, outside of the Nutrition Facts label, "Carb Facts" 42 tota carbs minus 37 Controlled Carbs equals 5 net carbs. At another place on the box it said it had been clinically tested to establish digestible carb levels. So, should i beleive it? Or what? Not that I am hankering to go nuts on pasta, I'm not. But say perhaps one day i thought it might be nice to have a little pasta on the side (no lectures, i'm not doing this now, im on induction, and i honestly have no desire to go pasta crazy). Besides I thought it might be a nice alternative for my family since I am the cook in the house and would like to lower all of our carbs even if they aren't strictly on atkins. Are any of you familiar with this product?

    Thanks!!!

I personally don't quite trust it -- but that being said, I have some every once in a while (like every three or four months). Typically, I have the penne, and just eat maybe three or four pieces, but since it tastes so much like regular pasta, I make it with chicken parm for the the family. They don't mind, then I can have a couple of pieces if I want to -- but like you -- I don't really WANT pasta, and this doesn't set off wild pasta or carb cravings for me.

Once I run out, I don't know if I will buy it again --- probably depends on whether there is any new info out there on its weird carb counting/manafacturing process!

I've had it and its very good .. too good actually. I would wait until maintenance to eat it regularly ... but I didn't gain a pound when I ate it.

I don't know how they do it!

We've had lots of discussions about this pasta, here is a link to one of them

Personally I don't buy their theory of how they came up w/ the carb count, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is IMO>

The last time I ate it, only one serving, it knocked me out of ketosis. That was the only thing I ate that could have possibilly done it. But maybe your milage will vary.

It's never bothered me (no gains), even after eating it every day till my entire casserole was gone...

I waited till Pre-Maintenance to use it

I have had it once and it tasted great.. didn't seem to affect me either.. but everyone is different! And as far as your family goes, I bet they won't taste the difference.

I too can eat this without any ill effects, seems to register around 5 carbs per serving on my internal carbometer!

I think it should be an occasional thing. If I recall the pasta is coated with something that makes the carbs less digestible. I might be wrong.

Some people get kicked out of ketosis, others actually gain weight and yet others can tolerate it from time to time. I personally know somebody who gained 20 lbs eating too much of Dreamfields pasta. So take it easy and have it occasionally, unless you really are one of the blessed ones who show no ill effects. I can only have a little at a time, as it causes, ahem...well, you know... gas! I like the fact that on low-carb that is just not a problem anymore, so it kinda puts me off the pasta a bit.

I make it for DH, but I really was never a pasta person to begin with. I used to love bread, but honestly today I could take it or leave it, except for freshly made homemade bread, which is hard to pass up. But we won't talk about desserts and candy-like treats such as chocolate and toffee and truffles (shhhh, my weakness, still to this day). ;-)

Maybe the reason I tolerate it is pasta was never a trigger food for me before. I coulda taken it or left it.

When I eat it, I never eat more than 1 serving. For example in my fridge I have a large casserole pan of baked beefaroni made with the elbows, ground beef, cheddar, parmesan, carb options spaghetti sauce + tomato sauce. I have eaten 1 cup of this every single day for 2 weeks with no problem at all.

my walmart stopped stocking it a few months ago as well. they had tons of boxes on the clearance shelf and we stocked up. we got about 10 boxes of the elbow and 15 boxes of the spaghetti...at $0.50 a box! we don't use it as much now as a few months ago, but it's great for something different every once in a while. it knocks me out of ketosis and i gain some water weight from it, so that's why i'm not eating it anymore. but it sure is good!

I too eat it only once in awhile. It doesn't seem to be a problem unless I eat too much. I'm not a big pasta freak, though. I also stocked up when WalMart stopped carrying it. I have a bedroom drawer full! It'll probably take three years to eat it all! LOL!
