  • Carb Question

    Hello,
I really would like to try Atkins but due to medical reasons my doctor has advised no less than 60 carbs a day for me at this time. Will I still see results until I can follow the induction strictly?

What is the purpose for only allowing 60 a day?

You will not see as good of results as you would if you entered ketosis, and I am not sure if 60 is to high....it differs from person to person

      not really

If your eating an outrageous amount of carbs everyday, of course dropping to 60 a day will be better for you.
And it may prevent you from gaining any more weight, but I doubt that you will loose any weight eating 60 carbs a day. If you do it will be very slowly. You may need to change doctors :nod

Well She can loose weight eating only 60lbs a day, with the right amount of exercise and eating all those carbs healthy. Just not as much and as fast if she entered ketosis.

It would depend on what your CCLL was as to whether you could lose weight and get into ketosis while eating 60 carbs a day.
And it would depend on what carbs you were eating.
If you gave up 'whites' - flour, sugar, pasta and potatoes etc and ate only from the first few OWL rungs I think you could lose weight. Particularly if you drink all your water and exercise.
You wouldn't be any worse off doing it that way :hug
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I believe I may have reach ketosis already. I was lying in the bed talking to my husband and he said my breath smelled fruity. I hadn't eaten anything and didn't have on any perfume so... Then I have been nausated and having headaches. We'll see...

Are you following an exercise routine? This will make a very big difference to your CCLL.

                      Aloha,
You will run into people that will tell you that your body needs more and more carbs and without them you will get kidney problems, cancer, heart disease as well as every other ailment under the sun. This may have something to do with the fact that the Atkins lifestyle has been falsely talked about as a diet where one eats pounds upon pounds of fatty meats as well as eggs and butter..etc...

The best way to rationalize things and realize the doctor is wrong is very simple.... Think of a cheeseburger and fries ( A typical meal for most people) Now think of a cheeseburger (or possibly 2) without the bun and a salad on the side. I ask you.. how could this be any more taxing on the kidneys than if you eat the bun. As for the keytones you produce, this is directly related to buring your fat storage.. it is in no way related to keto-acidosis ( a condition which actually produces acetone in the blood... acetone is one of the main ingredients in nail polish remover). The similarity of the two items when broken down is that they are spelled similarly, but they are by no means closely related

I just dont get why people think this. We are not filtering 100's of pounds of meat through our body a day.. In actuality as you continue with OWL you will probally not be eating too much more meats, fats, etc.... than a person who is not living the Atkins lifestyle. Its almost as though the medical community thinks the carbs in someway help our kidneys.

Hope this helps some people. mention this to the medical community. it is actually an eye opener to some of them.

                      Aloha from Maui
                      Paul
