  • Anyone tried Flaxseed???

I just purchased a box of Flaxseed and have absolutely no idea how to use it without making the muffin recipe it shows you on the box? Does anyone have any ideas and does it taste nasty and is it good for you? I take meds for hyperactive thryoid, would this have any impact on that if you know , thanks.

If you have whole seeds, you'll want to grind them for flax meal for many of the recipes. Coffe grinders work great. I would think a mortar and pestle would too.

I buy the already ground and use it a lot. I am sure some of the recipes listed will give you info, but personally, I use it mainly to make hot cereal-just add a little bit of cream and cinnamon. I have made the bread, but I am not a big fan of it. never sued it for breading type substitute.

It's really good stuff and you can "go" happily.

FYI- Keep it frozen or it tastes horrible and spoils really fast once open. I jsut store it in there unopened or not.

Flaxseed can be excellent for low-carbohydrate cookie recipes. The flavor and texture (nutty!) is among the best I have tried. As microscopic as they are, they pack a lot of punch!
