  • Low-glycemic WOE better than low-fat according to study!

    >>>Dieters who watched their glycemic indices also experienced a larger decrease in fatty substances in the blood linked to heart disease and had a drop in levels of a protein that interferes with the body's ability to break down blood clots. In contrast, low-fat dieters had an increase in levels of the same protein, which may put them at higher risk of heart attack.

"Reducing (glycemic index) may be more effective than cutting back on fat over the long-term, both for weight loss and also for reducing risk of heart disease," study author Dr. David S. Ludwig told Reuters Health.>>

It's about time. This is great motivation for me.

Well they're essentially telling us what we already knew, still, it is good to see that they are beginning to come around.

On the other hand as I'm cruising the internet looking for information I keep seeing studies that say low fat is better because more people stick with it in the long run and keep the weight off. Not that the diet itself is better for you. I was miserable on low fat so they can bite me. They will never stop bashing low carb. And they call it a 'fad'. Isn't low fat newer?

I couldn't stick with low-fat either. I was always hungry and got the shakes if I went too long without eating. If I eat more protein and less refined carbs, I don't get that way. Perhaps this article and study are the beginning of the end of low-carb bashing??

I doubt it. The ketogenic diet goes back to the 1800s and will always be misunderstood. The 'fat is bad for you and will clog your arteries' mantra has the backing of the sugar industry and the government, and that is hard to overcome...

            Think of it this way:

            Low-fat foods = sugar/starch = obesity = illness/disease = drugs =

more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the food industry and definitely more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the doctors and pharmaceutical companies....

There's alot at stake for companies who profit by the sugar industry.

            Think about it.

yah, our health is the last thing those people think about, it's always their $$$ they think about, think about environment issues, same thing, we could have our cars running on way cleaner fuel but that would mean they can't make as much money as they can now on their oil, so there you go, same story all over

                  $$$$ is peoples curse

You're right, ttdriver. There are already lots of studies that show this WOE is healthy, but that hasn't stopped the bashing. But I have noticed that the loudest bashers are associated with PETA, and they are wacko to begin with.

That article was one of the reasons that inspired me to come back to atkins. I've been trying to do low fat and it sucks! I always feel hungry...and the low fat makes me want to cheat. I'm hoping I can stick with atkins/low glycemic WOE this time.

You can do it!!! The best thing about Atkins is, when done properly, it gives YOU control over food. On low fat diets, it always felt like the food was controlling me! I obssessed about food whenever I was on a low fat diet because I was always hungry. Atkins has given me the ability to be like "oh is it dinner time? eh I'll wait another hour before eating my meal".

                        You CAN do it!!
