  • Reduction in seasonal allergies anyone?

Has anyone who suffers from seasonal allergies noticed a reduction in symptoms since they have been on this WOE?

I usually have chronic allergy problems and this Spring came and went without me having to take any prescritpion allergy medication at all! I can't believe it! :joy

The next question I have is this...if you have seen a reduction in your symptoms, do you believe it is attributed to the change in eating or is it created by a lower body mass?

Anyone with any clinical evidence or articles regarding this subject...please post!

    Thanks!

Allergies are usually liver related. Perhaps by cutting out the white stuff, your liver is less clogged than it was before. My chiropractor gives a health talk once a month, and he recommends a No- Grain Diet*. He says that flour, grains, and sugar, combined with water, or liquid form a paste or sludge, and that sludge slows down our digestive system as a whole, including the liver. So, I would presume, that by avoiding these clogging foods, your digestive system is working more efficiently, and your liver is becoming cleaner. Does that make sense?

*Based on a book by Dr. Mercola. This diet is strictly animal protein and vegetables.

This article talks about the correlation between saturated fat vs. trans fat in children with allergies.

      Pretty interesting.

I started allergy shots 2 years ago, and started this WOE a year ago. I was completely symptom free this year. However I don't know if it's because the shots are working wonders, or the WOE is helping or some combination of both. But when I mentioned being symptom free to the nurses when I got my shots, they were very surprised. Happy, but surprised. I never thought about the WOE helping my symptoms.

I know this probably didn't help answer your question.

If your allergies are food related you should see improvement. A few of the foods that cause allergic reactions are milk, wheat, corn, just to name a few.

Isn't it wonderful how this WOE does so much to help us become healthier. Thank you Dr. atkins!!!

I had terrible hay fever issues before I moved to Montana(from Vermont) and have been so much better since I have been here..

I know I have some food allergies and should show improvement in that area with this program..... Johnny :guns

              I have.

I'm an asthmatic and I have seasonal allergies. For my asthma, I was taking a long-acting steroid and beta agonist PLUS I was using rescue albuterol daily. 4 months into Atkins, I was off the steroid/beta agonist combo. I currently use albuterol before exercise, but I really don't need that.

For my allergies, I was on a nasal steriod, an oral antihistimine, an eye antihistamine and nasal rinses. These medications were barely controlling my allergies. In fact, I was only off these medications for about 4-5 months a year because as soon as the spring allergies were over, the fall allergies would begin to affect me. I was definitely headed towards allergy shots. The first Fall I was on Atkins, I didn't need any of those medications. The following Spring, I only needed the nasal steroid. Currently, I use the nasal steroids for only 2 months (April and May). I do the nasal rinses only once or twice a month.

If you want to read more about this, I suggest a book called The Asthma and Allergy Cure by Fred Pescatore, MD. Dr. Pescatore was the Associate Director of the Atkins Center during the 1990s. His book explains the food intolerance concept in much more detail than Dr. Atkins' chapter in DANDR.

My DH, before starting this WOE at the end of January, was always clogged up, and could hardly breathe through his nose. He sounded very nasal, and was always using nose inhalers. Now, he has not used any of these nose inhalers, and breathes freely through his nose. He was also on stomach medication before, for many years, and now he is free of them as well. Doctor says it is probably food related allergy. So this WOE has been a wonder for him!!! :yes

Interesting stuff about the liver above. When I first did Atkins I found that my tolerance for alcohol drastically decreased. One small drink and I was super tipsy. Maybe this is why. And my tolerance remained low even after I stopped Atkins and took awhile to go back up. All the sludge needs some time I guess! And I know alcohol is verbotten, but last time I ignored that. I'm doing my best this time!

My allergies also seem to be better.

I only have allergy symptoms in the spring while the trees are budding. I had absolutely no symptoms this year. I kept thinking, "Why am I not sneezing?" I have to assume it is the diet.

You lucky dogs. Nothing helps me, except shots. I have tried eliminating various things before I tried Atkins and no success with that either...for me its all about the trees and dogs and cats...and grass......
