I became vegan January 1st and have been very happy with my choice. However, with summer nearly here and beach days coming, I wanted to lose some weight and Atkins had worked for me in the past. Although it says in the book that this diet isn't really suitable for vegetarians, I've found it quite easy and enjoyable! There are so many great fake meats out there (many of them vegan) and wonderful soy and gluten based products that are full of protein, but low on net carbs (usually from zero to four). Some of the fake meat, like Tofurky Italian Sausages, are high in fiber as well. In fact, many of my meat-eating co-workers keep asking me what smells so good when I eat my lunch!
