  • Atkins and blood thinners

So, I've been on blood thinners since '98 due to a genetic blood clotting thingy that they discovered I have and my levels of meds have been really stable.

When I started Atkins however we have had to increase my dose a little bit several times now. I rarely bruise, I still ride my scooter, etc (thankyou Medic-Alert bracelet people for giving me peace of mind!!) and I don't let this weigh over me.

Foods with vitamin K can affect me (vegetables mainly) so I understand that is what's going on here, given the amounts of veggies I eat, but I was wondering if anyone else had the same or similar experience.

If you'd prefer, just pm me.

Oh don't feel bad for me, I'm fine! :joy
In fact our scooter club is going on a two day mini-rally in a few weeks, and I'm totally psyched about it.
I got my scooter about 2 weeks before I found I had to be on the meds for life and I was really upset thinking I'd be told to stay off of risky things like motorcycles. My specialist surprised me by saying to just live my life however I chose, but to make sure I got periodic blood tests to make sure I was on target with my dosage.

Oh...sort of off topic, but not really...I have a picture of myself sitting on my scooter when I got it in 2001, and when I'm closer to goal, I'm going to recreate that pic. I can't wait...I was so happy to have that bike, but oh man, it was hard getting over that 'fat lady on a scooter' stigma I gave myself. It's so much fun though, I got over it...lol

      Thanks for your concern :hug

I understand what you mean......I am finally not feeling like "fat old lady on little motorcycle". I have a 1979 Honda trail 90. It is technically a motorcycle, but it can cross creeks, go up deer trails, through snow......I love it! It's a classic. They call them "postie bikes" in Australlia, because they are used by the post office to deliver mail there. They kind of look like scooters. I wish I had taken a picture of me on it 30 pounds ago....darn! Have fun on your rally...that sounds like a blast!!!!!! I hope there are some clubs in Florida. We are moving there in a month.

You know, I think I may have known somebody at our last base that had your condition. She had to get heperin shots. She lived her life as she chose to also. She rode horses. Trish
