  • Down but not out!

Ok guys I am presently going through a bad time. I have had a bad throat and high temperature for 2 days. My throat has been so bad I have found it hard to drink water let alone any food. Today I have had a couple of glasses of Milk shake made with whole milk and Ice cream. Checked and I have gone completely out of ketosis, surprise, surprise. Just wanted to let you all know that this is not the end! Atkins works for me and I’m going to see this one through!!! Hope you can forgive me.

Colin, learn from it, pick yourself up and move on. No point beating yourself up over it - you'll just get more discouraged. Let it be that you know next time you don't feel well, to find some other sort of comfort food - like good ol' chicken soup, esp when you're sick.

What about trying to freeze some crystal light into popsicles, or koolaid sweetened with splenda? That would feel good on your throat maybe.

I haven’t lost track or faith in Atkins just the opposite. My throat was that bad that I couldn’t eat for 2 days. Even trying to drink water was almost impossible. My glands were swollen and my temperature was well up. Maybe we differ on this subject but when you have a physical problem as apposed to an emotional problem I think we should all be focused enough to make a decision that at the time benefits us. The question we should be asking ourselves is if we are strong enough and committed to jump straight back in where we left off. I don’t think there is a lesson to be learnt for me personally, I am strong enough and totally focused on my personal goal and WILL NOT fail. If we were discussing an emotional problem, and I had slipped up then I personally would look upon that as a reason for concern.

                  No-added-sugar ice cream!

I've just invested in a smoothie maker for my son and have discovered that not only can you make wonderful smoothies with just about any fruit mixed with soy milk (he has a milk allergy) but, if you freeze fruit, especially sliced up banana (high carb, I know, but for kids and sore-throat treats) you can whiz up some soy milk in a blender and then add frozen berries and banana one at a time until it's thick enough to call ice-cream.

It's a dairy free, low-fat, no-added-sugar ice cream - and it tastes *wonderful*!! I guess you could replace some of the soy milk with cream if you wanted and it would be even nicer, but I haven't tried this as then my son couldn't eat it, and I never fancied adding those artificial 'soy-creems' to something that started out so healthy.
