  • I need help/rant

ok here goes my rant/need for help speech.

I don't know what to do, simple as that. I started atkins on may 16th, and haven't lost much weight since then. Below I listed my weight at the various dates that I have recorded. I admit I havent been exercising regularly so I dont think i'm "gaining muscle" which is making the scale not move. I also admit I haven't measured myself (whenever I think of measuring myself I think of so much human error possible that its not even worth it, but thats just me).

I don't know if I should try atkins more, or just suck it up and go back on the subway diet which seemed to be working before I fell off/on alot in april.

    weights/dates:
5-13-05 to 5-15-05: binged like a crazy person to prepare for no carbs
    5-16-05: started atkins induction
    5-17-05: 257 lbs
    5-23-05 252.4 lbs
    5-30-05: 246 lbs
6-6-05: 250 lbs (this gain killed my motivation but i stuck with it)
    6-13-05: 248.2 lbs (1 month on induction)
6-20-05: 249.2 before bathroom, 248.0 after bathroom (urinating)

so there it is, I don't know why I can't seem to lose, its really discurraging me. On one hand, so many people have had success on this and I don't feel hungry all the time, but on the other hand, I'm not losing and I keep thinking "am i wasting my time, go back on subway and lose 2 lbs a week"

anyone know why I would stall out this bad? I haven't had what i would describe as a solid loss in 3 weeks now. At this point, I'm going to stay on this until this weekend probably, but honestly i don't kow what to do. maybe atkins just doesn't work with me?

btw i've been on induction the whole time, and after that gain from 246-250 i cut out pepperoni and pork rinds, i thought this would help, but NOPE. I drink about 100 oz of water a day too, i havent had a soda since I started back in may. I don't know if i should stay on atkins or go off it.

You need to exercise. I know people don't like hearing that, but you do. Exercise is a mandatory part of the Atkins program. Just go walking, if nothing else. Someone posted recently that if you just leave your house and walk for 15 minutes, turn around and go home, then you've exercised for 30 minutes! :nod

And to put it in perspective, don't think of what you haven't lost, but think of what you have lost and how much closer you are to your goal, and that you are much healthier eating this way.

We all get discouraged at different times, for various reasons, but ultimately, with any program you choose, you have to be committed to it and everything it entails.

Good luck in whatever you choose!

If I just look at your starting and ending weight, it looks like you've lost 9 pounds in just over a month. This is about the 2 pounds/week you'd lose on the subway diet (according to you). 9 pounds a month is 108 pounds in one year. Are you unhappy with the food that you're eating, or just unhappy that you think you'll stalled?

We've seen a ton of people on here that have stalled for a lot longer, AND they were exercising, and then they get that mystical whooshie after 5 or 6 weeks. I know you said you aren't measuring, but can you feel a difference in your clothes? I second what cajun said. Start exercising, even if it's only a 30 minute walk.

There will be pauses in your weightloss...that's just how it goes, and it's normal. If you are eating as you are supposed to be eating, just hang in there. Your body needs to adjust to all of this.

I agree with everyone else, you will see your loss pick back up. You are a young male and that means you will most likely lose rather quickly again very soon.

BTW, if you go back to the Subway diet, you most likely will put on several lbs of water weight due to all those sudden carbs. Also remember that the Subway diet is no where near as healthy as Atkins with all that white bread (totally and completely devoid of nutrients), not to mention all the cold cuts.

Do yourself a favor and stick with Atkins, you haven't been stalled long. If you exercise even a little bit, you will be very surprised by the pick-up in weight loss.

            Mike,
Your doing good, really. Losing weight is the hardest, toughest thing in the world. Keep at it. Try to work some exercise in. It will come off. Set mini goals, then the big picture wont see so big. Its true, for me, I am very close to goal with about 15 lbs to lose, I would love to drop it in the next month, but I know that is not realstic, so I set a goal of Halloween. I have had this goal for a few months now, and I cant believe how the months are flying by. It does get easier, and pretty soon you will find a routine that will work for you. Take one day at a time. And my only other suggestion besides all the good advice that has already been given is,, dont weigh yourself but once a week, or once every two weeks. I find that helped me to stay motivated and not let the little setbacks become big setbacks. OH yeah, and come here often,, you will find many others that are in the same situation....

I agree with the fact that you've stopped losing for the moment. You said you were on the Subway diet(lol) and you probally were already losing weight, and then you began eating the right way(atkins) and lost 10 more lbs.

And yes exercise is mandatory, if you are not exercising, you are not doing Atkins.

In addition to what everyone else said, I also noticed that you were dieting before you started atkins.. Most people in their first week of atkins experience a large weight drop because of water weight. Since you were dieting before, you probably had very little excess water just hanging around, thus your weight loss so far has probably been fat loss, which is what you want! That's a good thing!

                  You're really doing quite good!

I never really can tell when clothes fit looser, i wear them big to begin with. i'm not unhappy with the food i'm eating, i'm just unhappy that i've stalled for 3 weeks. Guess i'm just discouraged, and I hope what you say is true and I will start losing soon.

yeah i have carbs i eat 2-3 cups of veggies a day and everything, the no carbs thing was before i was informed on this way of eating and wanted one last hurrah.

and you lol at the subway diet all you want but it lost me 80 lbs and has worked for others. I know it isnt the healthiest, which is partly why I want this woe to work for me.

I'll start going for walks and stuff this week and hope it helps.

Mike, I have to agree with everyone else...YOU MUST EXERCISE! Even if you feel that you don't have the time, squeeze it in somewhere. Even if it's nothing but 30 min a day, do something---then you will see the results you are looking for.

Maybe post a couple of days' menu's. Maybe there is something that can be tweaked.

Mike I would really like to help you and get you 100% motivated. I strongly believe that our goals can only be reached with a little help from within. If you can get your head in gear, everything else falls into place. I am no expert but I can give you the benefit of my meagre experience. If I were in your place I would approach the situation 1 step at a time. If you haven’t already got some Ketosis test strips get hold of some and that will tell you if your in ketosis or not. If you are in ketosis and not loosing weight then make a post to that fact and hopefully the feedback will help you. If you aren’t in ketosis then that must be addressed. Personally I cannot stress the importance of a clean induction. That means no possessed meats like pepperoni. Stick to a large amount of fatty meats, fish including high oil content fish. I made use of lots of olive oil, especially mixed with vinegar to make an exiting salad dressing. You may have included in your food intake an item that you feel is expectable but is stopping weight loss. Read the induction list very carefully, stay focused and believe in your ability to lose weight and look good. Maybe if you want we can PM each other on a daily basis to compare menus, feelings and weight loss. If that helps PM me. I find exercise difficult to fit in to my life style and have only just started in my sixth week. Good luck Mike, I would like you to make the same progress that I have made.

I bet if you look real close you are eating something that is pushing your carbs way over the 20 per day mark. That or you are eating an unlimited amount of locarb stuff. Atkins is not "all you can eat"
The best advice I can give you is get the book and read it.

i thought my induction was pretty clean, except for the pepperoni/pork rings which i cut out, i can try to do it all over again if you suggest to cut something out. basically i've been eating the following in a typical day

                              2 eggs for breakfast

tuna salad for lunch (1 tuna packet, alot of mayo, 1 cup cut up celery) and 1 oz of cheddar cheese

for dinner i usually eat 2 cups of mushrooms or 1 cup of brocolli with

                              hamburger
                              chicken
                              sausage
                              steak
                              pork chops
                              ham

snack on hard boiled egg or cheese at night

i tested myself with the ketostix during induction but never showed up on them, i'll test again today to see what happens, i thought that the water was diluting the strips (tested first thing in the morning)

also went for a 30 minute walk today
