  • About how many pounds do you think....

    how many pounds do you think is possible to lose over the summer? Can someone explain the atkins die, I don't know what it is.

    20 pounds.
    Please get a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition.
    That is the whole diet in a nut shell.
    You basically limit yourself to 20 "net carbs" a day at first and then increase carbs until you don't lose weight anymore. Hopefully at that point you are at your goal weight.

    Reading this board, especially the "FAQ" section is a good start, also http://atkins.com has some introductory material on line. But most people here assume you've read the book and are here to help "fine tune" your plan.

        Induction is 20 or less carbs per day. But those carbs should come mostly from the veggies on the approved food list for induction. If you review the sticky's at the top of each forum, you will find useful information, in addition to the sections and sites that Iap referred you too. As he said, definitely a good idea to read the book. There are things that you will really need to understand to make this way of eating a way of life, including what "net carbs" are.

          I don't think anyone can say definitively how many pounds you will be able to lose. This depends on many factors, especially how much you need to lose in the first place.

          Please go buy DANDR, read it, then plan accordingly. You should not begin Induction until you have a firm grasp on how to do Atkins properly.

            The amount you lose this summer is directly related to the weight you are when you begin.

            Someone weighing 300 lbs at the beginning will lose more than someone starting out at 150.

            Expect to lose about 10% of what you need to lose during the 2-week induction period. That's about the only prediction anyone can make!

            But here's the wild part: you can lose TONS of inches while only dropping a few pounds. REally!
