  • Retaining water

If I am retaining water, should I up my water intake? Will that help? I think I overdosed on salt last week while on vacation, so I am watching my salt intake now. Will drinking more water help me release all of this extra? I think I'm holding on to at least and extra 5 lbs. of water here.

I was holding on to water too. Just hang in there with decreased salt intake, drinking plenty of water. If you are exercising a lot it will also cause you to hold onto water. BUT, one day you will get up and will have lost several pounds. You will then have a pretty good regulation of fluid. At least that is how it was for me. :nod

Dr. Atkins advocates certain vitamins for those of us who suffer from fluid retention. It's in the chapter concerning vita nutrients and it has helped me immensely. ensive

I seem to be having the same problem as you! THis last week I seem to be up a bit, drinking at least 80 oz of water daily, and working out 6 out of 7 days, and staying on target with food. So I can only attribute it to water retention, and being pre-menstrual. For dinner tonight, I added some horseradish to my beef. Maybe that will get things rolling downwards again!

If I OD on the salt, I'll up my water intake for a few days to help flush it - generally another 16-32oz. But sheesh. After 96oz, what's another 16? LOL

Generally though, I've found it does help to flush it a bit faster.

Horseradish is a wonder whooshie food for me, I add just a tich of it (end of a teaspoon) to 12 to 15 devilled eggs filler. YUM! Gives it just a wee bite, and then WHOOSH!

First on topic: now this is going to sound weird. When I've eaten asparagus (fresh Dutch asparagus, they call it White Gold and is only available in may and june) my scale is up the next morning! Although they say Asparagus are just doing the opposite, I feel I keep the water a while with me. I eat them with two hard boiled eggs, butter and delicatessen ham. Anyway, what I'm trying to say, it just might be something you've eaten, something you don't expect it from to hold your water

Of topic: Brook! I was on this board until a year ago but came back (love this place). And then to find you back again. I remember me staring at your photo's and imprinting myself, 'I can do this to!'. Are you ok?

Nikki-e, I love your picture by the HB star. I have one also, I'm going to look for it and put in my signature also! All the best to you,
