  • Measurement Question

I was wondering how you measure yourself to see if inches have been lost. I have been keeping track of my measurements since I started, but I never look at it as an exact. Did I measure in the same spot as the last time? Was I sucking in my gut? Expanding my gut to make sure that I didn't suck in? :yes

How do you do it to make it more accurate. I just measured myself again and it seems according to my measurements, almost everything seemed the same from a month ago, but I according to the measuring, I gained 1.5 inches on my shoulders. It just doesn't seem right.

I measure my neck, shoulders, chest, right bicep, left bicep, right forearm, left forearm, waist, hips, butt, right thigh, left thigh, right calf, and left calf monthly. I just figured I'd post something to see if anyone has any pointers.

I heard somewhere that is you get a piece of tape and put it on the end of the tape measure and then tape it to your body that really helps.

Technically you shouldnt measure yourself. Hard to get it in the same spot all the time.

I use www.mybodycomp.com (free to join) and it actually shows exactly where on your body to measure and helps keep track of it all.

        Good luck!

          measuring

When I measure my waist I make sure the tape is crossing my belly button. Then, I look in the mirror to make sure its going around me straight. I usually take one measurement without sucking in my stomach and one while sucking in my stomach. I suck my stomach in as much as I can, that way its always the same everytime.

I try to measure where there are markers. Ex: a beauty mark, a scar anything that helps me find the same place twice.

          Good luck,

            Hi!

I've read somewhere that the best way to weight and measure yourself is in the mornings. At this time your stomach is emty so every time you can get the exact results.
I've tried to weight myself in the morning and then in the same evening and I must say the difference was 2 pounds.

My only pointer is to try to measure in the same mode each time (no surprise there). For me that was sucking in my gut. Or perhaps that was just because the 60" tape measure wouldn't fit at first if I didn't. As mentioned, Mybodycomp has pretty detailed instructions on where to measure yourself. I also only measure myself once a month. With that I am guaranteed to see something moving in the right direction. Measuring too often could certainly discouragement perhaps even more than weighing as bodies are seemingly always shifting mass and water retention around.

I find it easier to have someone measure those hard to reach places lol

You might want to purchase a "Myotape". It makes it much easier to measure because the measuring tape has a push-button and locking function to ensure you masure well.

You can find it easily via google. Here's one link to it:
