  • A quickie query

Has anyone experienced any stalls when using antihistamines?

Just wanted to know as I might have to start taking something called Zirtec, here in Italy.

    Tks for any replies

I could try taking them and see what happens? sorry, I was just kidding... my fiance takes them and he finds them an absolute blessing, but he's not on Atkins. He does find Zyrtec to be the best one he's tried so far and causes very minimal drowsiness.

I took the generic form of Claritin all last summer and I lost most of my weight then no problem.
I'm taking it this summer again and my weight loss is much slower, but I'm 20 pounds away from my goal, so it has nothing to do with the drug.

I can't imagine an antihistamine interfering with weight loss...it has nothing to do with blood sugars or anything.

Even if it did, I'd rather take it than suffer from those horrible allergies..omg :yikes

I have been on Zyrtec, Claritin, Alavert, Now just Alavert, for over a year straight, during most of my Atkins WOE I have been on something for allergies.. I had nasal surgery a few months ago, before that I was doing the Alavert, Flonase, plus an tylenol sinus daily.. Never really affaected my weight loss.. But it sure is nice to only do one pill a day now..

The only reason I stopped Zyrtec is it made me really tired and I would want to sleep more than anything else...

Not really answering your question but I just wanted to say this for all the allergy sufferers who replied. I took just about every allergy medication there was over the last 25 years. 2 years ago I started getting shots. I think I've taken 6 pills in the last 2 years, and no nasal sprays at all. My quality of life is amazingly improved. If anyone is considering it, or hasn't even thought about it, I would highly recommend it.

:yes Jim, you're right. My fiance has been getting those allergy shots/vaccinations for the last year, and he has hardly needed any antihistamines since. They're pretty pricey here and not really covered by the public health system (or insurance), but it's definitely worth it, esp there's a high guarantee of being allergy-free for the next 5-10 years

                    shots

                    Hi Jim,

I have terrible allergies but have avoided the shots because I thought they were bad for you. Dont they have steroids?

                    Thanks

                        Re: A quickie query

Watch those steroids. I took steroids for allergies and they shut down my adrenal glands causing adrenal insufficiency which is an awful problem to have. It took 4 years for the endocrinologist to get them restarted. The sprays in their small doses are probably okay but watch the oral forms. They can really get you into trouble if you take them very often. It is kind of rare but it can happen.
