  • Ideas for a great LC cookbook?

    Hey friends....

I want to get myself a low carb cookbook.
I would like to have one that has receipes
that are easy-with items that you use
everyday and are easy to find (& cheap maybe?)
Maybe even with receipes that kids would like.
    Is that possible?

Anyone got any ideas what I should buy?

Do either one of these cookbooks have everyday products that everyone usually has in their fridge. That's the kind of girl I am. I like easy simple recipes that taste great. Am I asking too much? I'd love to find a cookbook w/ 5 or so ingredients or less per recipe.

They're both great cookbooks. No wing of bat, eye of gnute or anything.

or, save your money and browse through the cookbook here (or google and come up with others).

I have the 500 LC Recipes by Dana Carpender and I rarely use it. I guess her tastes and mine don't jive.

I'm also a very "simple" cook, and so is my hubby. I don't need a pile of sauces and things on my veggies to make me want to eat them.

I have heard that Karen Barnaby's book is a good one - I know I really like the recipes on the Board that she frequents. I believe someone else posted a reference to her book.

Sometimes, though, I just rely on my own imagination and whatever spices I have in the pantry. I know what I like; I don't necessarily need someone else to tell me how I should cook.

Re: Ideas for a great LC cookbook?

I just got in George Stella's book, and it is awesome. I ordered Dana's book last night off Half.com for only 5 bucks, and that includes shipping. I have been to Linda's site, and I must say, if she had it in print form I would buy it in a minute. She may, I don't know, I have just been leaving the computer up on that page.

            Linda's site is:

            http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/index.html

Hmm, the link does not work when clicked on. I probably did something wrong. I think there is a link off this site somewhere.

You had it correct but for some reason it wont work on the link - I think this one will

Yes I posted a reference to Karen Barnaby's book, its awesome!! She is the Canadian chef who has that amazing deep dish pizza recipe in her recipe book. This low carb pizza is one that many use and love here. Heres the pizza recipe in case anyone wants it.

The best recipes are the ones I have gotten here on online. All tried and true but I have heard many good things about Dana Carpenters book as you have already heard here.

My cookbooks! (she says almost unashamedly!) I'm not a gourmet cook like Karen Barnaby, but I have a natural God-given gift and I'm a down home-style cooking kinda gal. I use everyday ingredients and nothing that is hard to source, when it comes to one or two specialty ingredients for baking such as whey protein powder or vital wheat gluten.

I agree with Psigna and of course Jen. Both are excellent choices -- Jen's especially with her dessert if you are into that. My mainstay really has been Linda's Low Carb site. I love her photo's and commentary what worked and where to take the recipe the next, which really what helps direct further culinary excursions. (I like to tweak and tweak old recipes more than try brand new ones.)

Re: Ideas for a great LC cookbook?

I'm making my own from here. I copy the recipies that sound good then try them out, if we like it I keep it and if not delete it. I also am putting it into the Master Cook computer program which also computes nutritional values, then eventionally I will print them out and put into a binder of all recipies that we like and use.

Linda's LC website, has been my main source of LC cooking! I have tried others, but I keep going back to Linda's, and the recipes on this site. All of the recipes I have tried from there have been wonderful and definately keepers. I have made my own recipe book, printing off the websites, on ly the recipes that I want! So much easier than flipping through tons of books!
