  • Some math....

Ok, I've been doing some math and need a little assistance.

My BMR is 1935, so my understanding is that I need to eat more than this but less than my active rate. So let's say 2000 calories per day.

So, if I eat 30% protein, that means 600 cals from protein, or 150 grams of protein.

    When I use ttdriver's formula (from http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ic.php?t=74622)
I come up with 150 grams of protein. Good, same number.

When I use the .6 to .8 grams per body pound I come up with 153 to 204 grams per day.

However, I've also heard that I should be eating my body weight divided by 2 in protein grams, so that's 127.5. And I know that excess protein is converted to glucose which causes fat to be produced.

I've been thinking I've been eating too much protein when I go over the 127.5 which then restricts total calories, since if that is 30% then my max total calories would be 1700. But then that's under my BMR.

ARG! And I know some responses will be 'don't worry, just eat 65/30/5' but I am a math minded person and like to know. Ovbiously I want to be eating enough protein that I'm not losing muscle, but not so much that it converts to fat. My calories range from about 1600 to 2000 per day, but I'm now wondering if I should always be eating at the 2000 range?

    Thanks y'all.

You lost me at 1935 :confused

Have you subtracted out calories from your workout?
Then you can eat that many more calories.
Unless you're eating protien bars/shakes/powder etc it should be fine.
Try to get more fat in there if anything. The fat really helps the weight loss.

The BMR number seems high anyways.
    I'm just confused. urplequ:

          Re: Some math....

the divided body weight formula is in kilogrsams not pounds. Stick with your Atkins ratios and your protein will be 300% of the USDA recommended amount for healthy adults. Somew of those higher protein intakes are for weight lifters and body builders and the human body has been found to adapt to converting proteins rapidly when you consistantly eat higher doses. Stick with your Atkins you will grow lean tissues and burn fats.

Remember that BMR is for all folk your size and weight. It doesn't know if you are a fluffy or rock hard what ever your weight is. If you know your lean body mass you can use the Katch McArdel formula to get a truer BMR for you.

          Happy low carbing.
