  • Bonus: Kids losing weight, too!

It's funny...the other day my daughter goes to put on a skirt and realizes that it slid right over her hips with no problem. We put her and my son on the scale and realized that because of our good eating habits, they've been kinda forced to develop good eating habits that we have messed up for them. I'll make steak and salad for me and hubby and then give a small potato or some wild rice to the kids or another veggie (corn, etc)

The results on the kids is that my 14 year old lost 10 pounds in 1 month (She was 185 to begin with...a little stocky) and my 7 year old lost 4 (he was 78 pounds). My middle child, she's 12, is already a sweet petite size so she didn't gain nor lose.

    yay!

good job on the healthier eating for the kids but please make sure you check with their doctors about total cals needed and any nutrients they might need supplemented since they are still growing kids and developing thier internal parts too.

Isn't that the truth how our habits are rubbing off on them. Honestly, I don't think they're being deprived, I think it's the junk we've cut out of their lives which has caused the weightloss. I have two daughters, my oldest weighed 178 and is now at 165 (she's 14). Her tummy is disappearing quickly and she's eating! She's been told though, that if she continues to eat the hi carb foods with her meals (ie junk) it will come back and that the food she's eating is just plain good for her body. My other daughter (12) went from 120 to 112 and they both have milk, treats, and regular foods but all in moderation.

It's great to see things are working for them also because of changes you've made!
        Hugs,

          Kathie -

SO true...I've cut so much junk out of their lives. They pretty much still eat cereal (nowadays they have the 50% reduced sugar Trix and what not) for breakfast, sandwhiches and fruit for lunch (during the summer it's easier to "control" what their lunch is) and some sort of meat/veggie/salad (cept for the older one...she's not a fan) and snacks throughout the day. Trust me, in the beginning they were BUMMED that mom wasn't buying a bunch of junk, but, they still get the normal kid yummy stuff: cookies, chips, etc...but all done in moderation and good portions.

Basically, everything I should've been doing from the get go. lol

But at least you have now found that you're helping your whole family and not just yourself so that must be a huge incentive for you to keep it all going. And if your children are developing good eating habits then they'll hopefully want to keep that going for themselves when they leave home.
