  • Chinese take-out

    Hey everyone---

Was just wondering...does anyone hear order chinese take-out and if so, which dishes are the most atkins friendly?

I usually order steamed chicken and broccoli and sliced roast pork. On the atkins website, it says moo shu is ok if you just skip the pancakes. Does anyone know if that is accurate?

I love chinese but I need more variety...I tried pepper steak and onions but then found out they put cornstarch in the sauce. Ugh!

    **DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER**

Chinese food is very deceptive! There are lots of hidden carbs in their sauces. I have had several bad experiences with what I thought were safe dishes and have given up. If you really crave chinese then I suggest you ask them which dishes have no flour, corn starch, or any kind of sugar products. You might also want to get a cook book and make your own. That would be safest.

Easiest "chinese" marinade for your meat is toasted sesame oil, chopped ginger root (or powdered ginger) and soy sauce. Just marinade your meat in that for a couple of hours or over night and stir fry it with veggies.

hey I'm not trying to sound like I'm anti-chinese food, but...

If you can AVOID Chinese food, then do it!!!

Even the "badly-cooked" Chinese food is full of hidden carbs - unless you can make it yourself, there's absolutely NO WAY that any dish does not contain a little bit of sugar or even cornstarch.

SORRY but that's the blatant truth of chinese cuisine

And here's the long-winded version of what has been said about Chinese food

Despite the many suggestions you will see, very few, VERY FEW are completely Atkins-friendly. Pretty much all Chinese food WILL have some sugars and cornstarch, even if you tell the the restaurant not to put it in - they will consider a "sprinkling" of cornstarch as "no carbs"

So as the others said, if you can cook it yourself, that would be the best way.
