  • intro / question please read

Hi everyone New to the boards I've been looking around the last week and i have to say Everyone is doing great at losing and you all look awsome!!!!

Alittle intro: My name is Angela 28 F from florida. I had always been thin in my teens and even tried to gain weight, but after 2 children it is now so hard to lose it. My high was 160 5'5. I was able to get myself to 150. And i started skating 4 miles 5 days a week. 4 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago i started introducing atkins. 2 weeks ago i had thought i had started atkins and then i started reading up on things. And i hadn't been aware you had to measure certain veggies and stuff. So 1 1/2 wks ago i started the full atkins. And was so excited I lost 4lbs in 3 days over last weekend with that being a total of 9 141 pounds since i started everything. I waited another 2 days and weighed And i was thrilled to hit 139.5 . Well from there A few days later i weighed and had jumped 2 and lost 2 And now this morning I'm at 141.5. I drink 5-6 16.9oz waters a day. I skate 4 miles 5 x week and do firm abs/pilates everyday. I'm still into intro with atkins. keeping carbs 15-25 and i know my calories aren't but maybe 1200. example today so far.

    16.9oz water
    carb counting yogart 3g
    weight watcher one aday vitiamn

    16.9oz water
    skated 4 miles

    16.9oz
    4 garlic muchrooms 2g
2 sm deli chicken slice wrapped in colby cheese and cream cheese
1tlb spoon of egg salad made with light mayo

so far and for tonight prob steak and salad

I'm not to sure of carbs on these I've tryed using fit. day but it doesn't have evrything in there. I'm getting a little frustrated

my metbo stixs are still mauve/ pink sometimes pinker than others
I planned on staying on intro until i reached 5 pounds off from goal .
Will i start losing again? And how long will it take? Am i do something different to make me stall. I got the 14 day starter pack ( vitimans) today And thought about starting them tomorrow???? My goal is 125lbs

You guys seem like a great helpful bunch!!! I had signed up on another atkins board and after 3 different posts, tons of people looked at them but noone ever responded So i decided to come here. Sorry for the lengh and i'm so excited to be here losing pounds with you guys!

    Hi Angela. Welcome to ADBB!

Congrats on your weight loss so far. It sounds like you are on the right track with your exercise, so that's fantastic.

A few words of caution: the low-carb yogurt isn't allowed until the dairy rung on OWL. You really want to make sure you do a CLEAN induction so you have a good solid foundation for the rest of the program. The rest of your food looks ok, but it doesn't look like enough. Are you really only eating one tablespoon of egg salad for lunch? And when you say "light mayo", does that mean "light" as in reduced fat/reduced calorie? If so, you need to stop eating that right away. Whenever a food is "light" it usually means low-fat, and that also usually means they've replaced the fat with sugar. Atkins is a high-fat diet, so you don't want to shy away from those good healthy fats.

Fitday takes a little getting used to, and you may have to manually enter a lot of your foods to start. But once they're in there, it's easy to input your foods from day to day.

There are some great stickies in the 14-day Induction Forum that will address some of your questions too.

Hi effie, Yes it was 1 tbl spoon today. I 'm not sure why guess i was just down and didn't want to eat to much since i seem to have added 1 lb. But thank you for the welcome and the info on the light mayo yes i will stop that right away also the yogurt!!! See theres so much to learn. I would love to read the book but I just can't seem to fit in time. The excersiing has taken quite abit of time ( although very important to me) but my kids keep me going and going so when it turns dark lights out lol.

Angela, if you don't have time to read the book, go to the Induction forum and read/print the stickies on how to do Atkins.

Congrats on your loss so far! Once you read up on this WOL, you will understand how to do it properly and you will see the fat disappear.

Don't be afraid if your weight flucuates. If you are afraid analyze your carb intake. Don't cut back on food. This will not help. Staying on induction until 5lbs from goal is setting yourself up. Do the program as it was intended. I stayed on extended induction and it only hindered me. As you add carbs your body absorbs that and it allows you to put variety into your menu slowly without a gain. Actually, your body loves being fed in this manner and will actually speed up the weight loss. This is training your body to allow more carbs without that sudden gain many inductees are horrified with when they do add carbs. Ok just came up with a simpler scenario: Basically your body gets very very used to certain foods and becomes complacant. Am I being clear cause I think I just about confused myself!

            Angela
If you had been standing there right now, I had this urge to hug you, to welcome you to this way of eating and to let you know that you are one of those people today who put a smile on my face! I was cheered to see that you are my height and have similar weightloss goals. I have been struggling a little you see and getting very discourage, but hearing about you, how you started (pretty much how I fell into Atkins before I started reading the book) and I am absolutely passionate about yoga and pilates (doesn't mean I'm that good at it ) But I was excited to see someone with stuff i could relate to, who IS starting this WOE (isn't it just exciting?!?!?) and all fired up about losing those pounds - it's not much and you WILL get there soon!

Well, my 2-bit to you is to do Induction as cleanly as possible and then consider the possibilities of moving to OWL. As you have only 20lbs you would like to lose, experimenting with what foods works for you and moving up the rungs up to Pre-maint is what you would probably hear the mods suggest later on. That way you can even introduce yoghurt into your diet if you have a fondness for it and if this food doesn't cause problems for you. And DANDR does recommend that you move onto Pre-Maint when you are within 5-10lbs of goal weight... so that means you'd better get a wriggle along... 10lbs isn't very much to play with in OWL

Effie's right - Fitday takes a bit of fiddling at the beginning (it even frustrates some so much they give up and don't use it again ) but if you have the time to enter a few of your custom foods and get used to the software, I think you'll find it a very convenient and invaluable tool. It does take a bit of patience with it though, esp at the beginning!

And seriously, it IS a misconception that doing OWL slows or stops weightloss. Have a peek into the OWL forum - you will find many folks, although they may find it difficult to work out what foods suits them, they will all agree that OWL can start or even increase weightloss, esp as you find that you are not losing weight on Induction... look at Betty our Admin - it is general knowledge that she didn't lose anything on Induction, but she lost in OWL and a year later she had reached goal!
