  • Maggie soups?

Hi everyone, first of all thank you for the support. I just started Atkins two days ago. Is it ok to eat those Maggie soups? They say 9 carbs. I also add a bit of cheese to it. Is this ok during induction or could it make me stall... Is it ok after induction? Please let me know.

    I'm 5'7 148lbs. goal weight 128 lbs.
    Thank you!

How much fiber is in the soup? You deduct fiber from carbs to get net carbs. I probably would not eat something with 9 carbs (almost half the days allowance) during induction. Also you need to make sure to check the ingredients list to make sure there are no ingridients you shouldn't be having (hidden sugars??). I pretty much try to stick to eating things I make from natural foods at home that way I know for sure what I'm getting.

What are the ingredients of this soup? If it has anything that isn't on the foods list for your phase of Atkins, then it doesn't matter how many carbs it has, it isn't legal for you.

        Yes, what she said...lol
Always always look at the ingredients and see if they are appropriate for the stage of Atkins that you are on. It doesn't matter if a food has low carbs if it's full of things you aren't supposed to be eating.

I can't think of any canned soup that may be safe for induction or for a whole foods lifestyle. Soup is so easy to make, store and eat!

All you need is a good organic (I always buy organic so it will always be recommended in my posts) chicken broth and add anything on your induction list. Season with salt pepper and garlic and it's amazing how many soups you will love making
          My favorite: cream of broccoli

          organic chicken broth
          broccoli
          roasted garlic
          heavy cream
          salt and pepper
cook broccoli down in broth with salt pepper and garlic
blend and serve with a dollop of parm. cheese
Make it a happy low carb life!

I totally agree with Fawn (AS USUAL!) Make your own soups .. the possibilities are endless on this woe!! Canned soups contain waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much sodium and believe me, that's not your friend.

              Re: Maggie soups?

Maggi soups are usually high in sodium (even the ones listed as "low-sodium/reduced salt") and to make it worse they also have flavour enhancers in them.

Even if the carbs are low enough, you may get negative effects from either the sodium content or flavour enhancers. For me, the flavour enhancers in these kind of soups causes extreme thirst for me and slight headache.
