  • Exercise Slowing Weight Loss

Hey everyone, I started Induction about 4 weeks ago, and I lost 8 1/2 pounds in the first two weeks. Then, after the first two weeks I started doing pretty heavy exercising, about 30-45min of cardio and weight lifting with The Firm video everyday - 5-6 days a week, and swimming 1/2 a mile every other day. I feel absolutely wonderful after two weeks of this, and I'm definitely not stopping (since the incredible pain is finally subsiding)! I've only gained 1 1/2 pounds in the past two weeks of this (which I know is totally normal due to the increase in muscle building), but I was wondering when I can expect to start losing pounds on the scale again. I've been measuring myself, and the inches have been coming off slowly (about 7 inches so far), I was just wondering when other people who've done this have started to see the scale move again? Thanks so much!

Well I think you found the dillema most of us hit.

People who start exercising also start battling the scale tooth and nail. Muscles get bigger and they also hydrate...the bigger the muscles the more hydration to. So you think the scale was screwy before? Now its worse.

The best is to watch the scale either on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and pay alot more attention to the tape measure.

The weight will move...eventually, probally in bursts, but the inches are most important anyway.

Whether you exercise or not, it is normal to have a real slow-down or even pause in weight loss on the scale after the first two weeks.

In my experience, this can last for a few weeks (2-3) and then the weight starts coming off again, though not as fast as it did in Induction, which was merely a kick-start.

Keep working out! The benefits are, of course, that you feel fantastic, but also that your body is getting toned and building muscle, the inches will come off faster than if you don't, and you will be getting definition under the fat that will show much better once the fat melts off!

you are having 2 things going on first there is thre normal post induction hesitation in weight loss commonly called **** which I hate cause it ain't a stall heck you just lost weight and lots of it the 2 weeks before but any way back to your post

the second is you have the problem of what does the scale tell you. Scale only tell us what the effect of gravity is on the total mass of the body not if we lost fat mass added muscle mass and/or fluid mass.'

You can right now have lost 3 pounds of fat added 4 pounds of muscle and fluid and think you are fatter by a pound if you didn't understand what was doing on with that suuperhydration of your muscles.

Keep using your tapemeasueew and see the inches of fat leaving even as you add lean body mass to your frame.

        Happy low carbing.

            My new favorite quote is:

Dieting makes you look good in clothes.... Exercise makes you look good naked!

I exercise like a mad woman and the scale only moves 1 week out of 4 for me. But the inches are melting away. Just in the last two weeks I lost another inch of butt/hip fat and another inch from my chest!

The scale can cause you great frustrations when you exercise a lot on this diet.... but let me tell ya, as you shrink, you will look fit and toned, not thin and flabby.

            Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much! You are all such a wonderful support group! I'm sorry that I haven't posted more recently, but work has been so busy lately. Anyway, yeah, I won't give up, I'm so happy with how I feel and how I'm starting to look!
Anyway Betty, I love Cedar Point!!! I've been going every year for the past 22 years of my life. I actually chose that ID to remind me that I have to loose weight (inches), so no one ever questions me again about fitting on the Millenium Force (that happened last year and I was devastated, even though I did fit!) I have one more month until our next yearly trip, and I know I'll both look and feel better.

Thank you again so much everyone, this is a wonderful group and I am so proud of all of you!

I am having this very problem myself. Today is my weight in day and I almost cried when I saw the one pound weight gain. But instead I thought I would give my leather size 8 pants another try. ( I tried them last week and they were not going to zip) And this week they fit. Zip and Button!!! I HATE SCALES!!!! Keep up the good work.

I hope so, Tara .. since we moved to FL in 1999, we've only been back to CP once and that was in 2001, so we're definitely overdue!! Haven't been there since starting Atkins though, so it would be TOUGH to pass up those terrific french fries!

You're right; it IS the greatest place for roller coaster fans!!!
