  • What is different?

I have lost almost 40lbs since April 1st and I feel great. I have more energy and much more confidence in myself. I have had many people ask me what made the difference this time around, why was I able to loose weight when I was not able in the past? I share with them 3 keys that has helped me more than anything else:

    1. A New Mindset-- in the past I always had the thought that I would loose some weight so that I could get back to my normal way of doing things. That never worked. I had to have a new mindset, one that realizes I will have a lifelong battle and I must be prepared for the long haul.

    2. Accountability-- in the past I always tried to do it alone. This time I have a dear friend who is my accountability partner. Each night we share what we have ate and what we did for exercise. This has been tremendous in helping me. Knowing that I have to check in each day really makes a difference. And it is great for encouragement.

    3. Stop making exceptions--in the past I would make exceptions for different things like a birthday party or a holiday dinner. With this way of doing things you can always find a new exception. I realized if I wanted to be successful I had to stop doing that. This time I have made it through birthday parties, church events and holidays without cheating, because I realize it is just not worth it.

    That is what is different!

      Re: What is different?

Yes, it is a lifestyle change.

I've come to realize something I think I heard on Dr. Phil...it went something like this: If you keep doing the same thing, you'll get the same results.

You have to make a change in order to change the outcome.

I know that I am the type of person that can't eat carelessly the rest of my life or I wouldn't be in the prediciment that I am in right now. I have to consider my activity level (I knew in my 20's I would have to exercise in order to keep the weight off) and my fuel. I need to eat to live rather than live to eat.

It is a joy to read everyone's thoughts, experiences and successes on this board.

I'm glad to be here with such a great group of people!

            Absolutely!!

Needs to be a lifetime commitment.
Even if the accountability comes from a place like here, and not a physically-close friend or family member, it is a big part of the equation that makes it work.

                Re: What is different?

gosh he is so right!!!! It's like,in the pit of my stomach I know that this time is different.I have this confidence that I just can't seem to shake. Before I was afraid that it was a false confidence, just like the other times. But after five days of getting up everyday to go to the gym for an hour everyday,I know that it's different this time around.I'm not afraid to lose the weight anymore.I think that was one of my fears before also. That once I lost the weight,I didn't know what would happen and I have a fear of such an unknown. But now I come here everyday and read what everybody has to say and how everybody is doing and it gives me more and more confidence that I'm going to succeed. So now I don't look into the future and be afraid, because I do not know what the future hold, but I can look at today, and decide that I'm going to exercise, and that I"m going to follow DANDR,and that I will not let the scale dictate how I should live my life, and that is the most motivating factor of them all,it's what gives me this new confidence that there's no chance of me failing, because this time around it's not just about me being 17 and wanting to fit into size 3's just like everyone else. It's about being Accountable for my health and my life instead of hoping that someone will come along and fix everything for me.It's about being mature.Thanx for that post,it really is very true everything that you said.
I CAN RESIST EVERYTHING AND TEMPTATION.
