  • "Do not skip meals"

Dr. Atkins advises to have three meals a day and not to go 6 hours without eating.

I just want to be sure it's okay that on weekends I sleep in, so I typically end up having only two meals, brunch and dinner. Because my brunch is usually an omelette of some sort, my first salad isn't until dinner, and I still only have 1.5 cups so as not to eat 3 cups of salad in one single sitting.

Do you think it's a problem if I'm under on my salad veggies? I suppose I could have a small salad with my eggs at brunch, but I'm not partial to salads with my first meal. Your thoughts?

    Re: "Do not skip meals"

I'd have a snack of some sort in between my meals to be on the safe side. I work at the weekends and that can really muck up my scheduling for my meals but I need to still eat right then or I'll splurge and eat rubbish.

Eat something - that way you'll not be ravenous come dinner time!

During the day, snack on vegetables and dip, maybe??

Or, just up the vegetables in the brunch meal. No one says vegetables means make a bowl of salad...

Make mock baked apple with jicima and have that as dessert with brunch

Add vegetables into the omelette. Spinach and mozzarella and mushroom...tomato and basil, red pepper and sausage, brocolli and cheese

Add a veggie side with the omelette- asparagus and hollandaise, baked tomato, spaghetti squash, pumpkin with cinnamon and splenda, hot cauliflower with some crumbled bacon and cheese

There's a million solutions, but I would recommend eating all of the vegetables. You are setting yourself up for meals that are screaming for vegetables to accompnay them anyhow. I think you would be less hungry throughout the day and way more full after brunch if you throw in some more vegetables there. Remember, too, that spinach or onions or mushrooms cook down, so if you add that stuff into an omelette, it isn't much at all. Have fun with all the great meals you can do.

        Re: "Do not skip meals"

Sometimes I have a hard time getting my veggies in. I have helped this by having spaghetti squash with my eggs. I also will have a good amount of onion, green pepper, mushroom mixture in my omlette. Since doing this, I am always getting my veggie intake correct.

Dr A Said don't go more than 6 WAKING hours without eating.

He probably didn't account for those of us who sleep in late on the weekends.
I wake up at the crack of noon on Sundays!

I would just keep on doing what you're doing if its not hindering your loss. I get up on Sunday and have brunch or lunch and then dinner and I still lose (Monday is my weigh in day so this works out even better).

It's not like you're gonna set your alarm to get up early on Sunday to make sure you eat something. If you're sleeping..then you have no need to eat.

If you're hungry between brunch and dinner, then snack on some veggies...but if you're not hungry..don't rush to get food into your body. Your body was at rest.

The main thing is to not go more than 6 hour without eating. Let's say you sleep in on weekends and wake up at 11 AM. You eat your first meal of the day at 12 noon. Your second meal of the day is at 5 PM, but you stay awake until 2 AM. Between 5 PM and 2 AM, you should eat something.

And this is where that "Don't eat after 7pm" fails at. People with different sleeping patterns, it doesn't count.

sorry had to throw that jab in.

                Re: "Do not skip meals"

lol! I think that jab was directed at me. I'm trying not to eat late in the day, but my sleeping pattern has been screwed up lately and I'm staying up late at night (yep... 2am ) and not being hungry until about noon. I need to either get that sleep pattern changed or go ahead and eat late in the evening.

Bugout, it sounds like you're doing fine, but be sure to check your weekend calorie intake. You want to make sure you're eating enough. It still seems strange to me, but sometimes I get in a habit of not eating enough and needing to eat more. fitday.com helps a lot with that.

lbrouwne, that jab wasn't directed at you. It was directed at people who think that 7pm has something to do with it. On the contrary, its your metabolisim, not the time.7pm, 7 am, if you are slowing down about ready to sleep, don't eat

Speaking for my own wacky bod, I don't eat after 8 PM because if I do, I get indigestion and I'm up all night.

That doesn't work though...you're sleeping 9 hours...according to the 'no more than 6hrs period' rule anyways....
