So the reason I am sooo sick is my Asthma I fight daily to keep this inder control and just when I think oh, I'm good I get really sick like today or end up with Pnemonia or this or that. Does anyone elese struggle to get grasp on this horrid disease. I try so hard and I feel like I keep losing this. I have all the things I need but, I am unsure of what it is that is my trigger this bothers me to no end I know it's envirionmental but, I llack enough Knowledge. I ahev this coupled with Hypothyroidism(Hashimotos) and B12 Deficency which can make your immune system weak. I am feeling somewhat down not to the point of supidity or self sabotage just want someone who understands what I am going through it's so hard.

I exercise do what I'm supposed to and still it hits me like a ton of brinks and drops me like a knockout punch, then exercise is on hold everything is on hold cause of my inability to breath is compromised. To walk up the stairs sends me wheezing my lungs are so full of much I can hardly open my chest it hurts. I wheeze ina dn out and feel like an old lady. I just want so badly to be healthy.

I'll keep on trucking no need to feel sorry for myself it;'s nice to know I am not alone though and someone understands my stuggles.

PS. It would be nice if there were an Asthma Forum LOL

    Re: Asthma Anyone

Sorry to hear that you are suffering with your asthma. I feel for you. My son had asthma as a child and it is hard when it flares up. Hard to get under control and hard to get thru the day too.

Has your dr ever had you tested with an allergist to see what your triggers are so that you can manage your asthma better? It really helped us to know what triggered my sons attacks. (mold, pet dander and cold weather not to mention exercise induced)

Hope you feel better soon! Have you looked for a board that deals with the disease? You may get a lot of information at a place like that.

Thanks for the reply I was beginning to think nobody would LOL. It's a hard thing to deal with I got initial testing way back when I first started having symptoms I have a dust allergy oh, great I basically cna't go outside LOL. I do find it's worse when it's windy or when we treck down gravel roads. I was at my ddads on the weekend and it was really windy and my Step Mom has a ton of flowers I amthinking it has something to do with that cause it was after my day there I felt really bad that evening actually and it got worse and worse through the night the next day was horrid and my immune reaction was very bad and kept getting worse till I ended up with a bacterial infection to top it off. My chest tightness is starting to go away but it still hurts to breath. I am majorly medicated right now just to deal with this but, I am sure it will be ok. Oh, doc also put me on Prednisone but, I don't know if I will take it cause it makes me feel really bad when I do and then I have to be even more careful of sickness cause it weakens your immune sytem so that your immune system will quit attacking you. Dear me I am a mess.

Are you on an inhaled steriod for your asthma and/or allergies? Steriods are the medication of choice nowadays....

Before Atkins, I was on Advair plus rescue Albuterol. Now, I'm on albuterol before exercise only (and I really don't need that at all). Funny thing, I found during OWL that certain wheat products causes my asthma flares up--so I avoid those wheat products.

But see your doctor about this.

          Hey Sarah
When you feel the respiratory crapola coming on try putting a few drops of oil of oregano in some water. It has a funny peppery taste but I hear it is good for the respiratory system among other things. HTH that's all I have

My son had a daily maintenance inhaler steroid, that he took and an albuterol rescee inhaler. He would take the albuterol before heavy activity like football or whatever depending on the season. When he was having a spell he would add the albuterol to his daily doses before the maintenance inhaler to make that med go in as deep as possible.

Sure hope you are feeling better soon!

I've got asthma too and have found since the pounds started to drop that I've not had as much trouble with the asthma that I used to have. Hopefully as I lose more weight the asthma symptoms will also improve!

                Re: Asthma Anyone

Like most others here, I have a rescue inhaler (albuterol) and a daily inhaler (Advair) as well as a pill (Singulair) that I think has helped more than anything. I take one at night and that's the thing that has caused the greatest improvement for me over time. It also has very few side effects, so see if your Doctor thinks that might work for you, Sarah! And hang in there, when you get started on the road down lung infections it can take a while to let them heal.

Also, for the time being stick with your Prednisone! I feel your pain - it makes me depressed and I eat everything in sight when I take it - but it will help your lungs settle down and can stop the never-ending process of fighting it. I'm assuming you're on it for a few weeks?

I've had serious asthma my whole life, so if there's any way I can help - even if it's just encouragement! - I'd be happy to.

I know it doesn't feel like it, but it DOES get better. Hang in there!

                  Re: Asthma Anyone

Thanks all I feel like I have my own little encouragement thread here. It's nice to know there are quite a few others who understnad this disease I guess you would say.

I have oregano oil Usually but I ran out I do boil it when I feel congested breathing it in and it does help anything I can do naturally I do it, I also have Eucalyptus oil I boil on my stove.

So far I am on Advair daily and a salbutamol puffer 4 times a day or as needed I did get the singulair but, have only taken it for a couple days and the doc said it would be 2 weeks before I noticed a big improvement so I am really hoping for a miracle. LOL I am on the prednesone for 2 weeks but, I have to be more careful of sick people cause when you're on it you can get sick easier.

I am feeling a whole lot better now lungs have settled down but, I'm still coughing a lot which will probably last for a few more weeks Ah goodness.

I thought I better let you all know I'm all right and on the road to recovery again

I was born with asthma and I KNOW how bad it hurts, oh my gosh. I seemed to have grown out of it although it does return when I have a cold or infection. It is no joke, I had it pretty bad as a child. My son has it now too but not as bad as I did thank God.

I COMMEND you on all of your exercise despite the asthma- that is no joke.

                            Re: Asthma Anyone

Thank you Allie I actually never had asthma when I was a child but, developed it with the changing of my hormones. It has actually gotten worse as I have gotten older which really sucks, and it's no joke very serious stuff.

With all the exercise I do I have to be very careful especially the weather. I can't run outside in the winter that puts me in the hospital and I can't run outside when it's early spring or cold or really damp. Thak goodness I have a treadmill. It's hard to try and do the things you want when your triggers are in the air. I also get Asthma syptoms way worse when I get any kind of infection so I really try to start my salbutamol puffer at the first sign of a cold or I end up really sick. I get scared when I get sick cause it's not usually a little cold it usually turns into pnemonia or Bronchitic cause of my lung problems.

When I was younger I had some type of Autoimmune disorder that caused wide spread yeast infections. It was horrible. Now if you think a little yeast infection is bad try to have one that consumes your entire body it was extremely painful. I didn't have asthma but had thet. Thank god by a miracle that dissappeared but now I have asthma.
