  • diet? taste buds? whats up?

ok so I do drink water but u know sometimes I want a diet dr pepper or something. but since I dont eat pure sugar anymore I notice that sometimes I have trouble telling if stuff is diet..and this is even if I am drinking directly out of the bottle. does anyone else experience this?

every body does as our taste buds become much more sugsr sensitive when they are not exposed to massive amounts day in and day out. you will find somwe of the veggies taste sweet too.

I have to agree, I notice a lot of veggies are way sweeter than I remember them. Beans for instance. Splenda can taste too sweet too, and I find I usually use half as much as I used to in things.

Everyone knows that Diet Dr. Pepper tastes more like regular Dr. Pepper!

        LMAO

Not only do you taste sugar more easily, but you can smell it aswell, I can't walk down candy ailes at walmart without getting sick.

A similar situation happened to me when I was at a club last weekend. I ordered a rum & diet and after I took that first taste, I sent it back b/c I could have sworn it was real Coke. After the replaced one tasted the same, I gave up. I couldn't handle the sickly, sweet taste.

I have been on this WOE since April and I am getting where I don't even like the taste of Diet Coke anymore. I never thought that would happen. If I pour myself a glass of Crystal Light, I need to water it down with half water.

Yes, this happens to me as well. And actually at Taco Bell the other day, I could have sworn that it was real pepsi, so I took it back. They gave me another drink - still, it tasted like pepsi. They then said the fountian spigots were mixed up and to use the regular pepsi dispenser - still too sweet. Non of it was diet - for real! I got my money back.

You know how some people say they don't like diet soda cause of the aftertaste? Well, that is me with regular - there is a definite sugar aftertaste that I can not tolerate any longer (not to mention not being able to tolerate sugar in general) My how things change.

Re: diet? taste buds? whats up?

I know exactly what you guys mean, before this WOE I was so desensitized to sugar that I could never even taste the subtle flavors in food. Now I find the wierdest things taste sweet. Like grean beans, who would have thought that grean beans were sweet.
I used to use a ton of splenda in my tea, now I can only stand about 1/2 a teaspoon. Yuck, I actually threw some out this morning because it was way to sweet.

Re: diet? taste buds? whats up?

I've sent many drinks back or to other people at the table and made them taste them. They looked at me like I was nuts and assured me it was diet! I noticed the tomatoes I bought last week were great, though. MAybe they were sweeter than normal, maybe it was me but they were good. Normally sweet things are wayy too sweet for me, so I really don't use splenda much.

Those little cherry tomatoes if chilled for a while are my 'sweet treat' now!! Of course always with fat like mayo or cheese.

Yup, love those little tomatoes. There are new ones out by Emeril..Didnt know he wa into tomatoes, too. ANyway, I didnt like em. They were baby romas, too, but hard and thick skin made it hard to chew...

I can (actually do) eat tomatoes and cucumbers with blue cheese dressing sweveral times a day.

My DH got chicken at Walmart's deli last week, and the hot wings looked good to me. They were not battered or floured in any way and I asked if there was sugar in them, and no there wasn't.

I got 6 pieces to take home and as I ate the first one there was something that didn't taste right. I ate all the wings, but peeled the skin off the rest first. I then called Walmart's deli and asked "OK, there's no sugar, but can you tell me if there is corn syrup or anything like that?" the answer was yes, and it was one of the top listed ingredients. LOL. Man, my own fault too... didn't even freaking think about corn syrup
