    Re: Atkins bankrupt

Well, of course, after the Doctor's death, the corporation started focussing on profit, rather than health, and as a result we've all been deluged with frankenproducts that don't really do much to help with the woe.

The original woe focussed on FRESH foods, FRESH ingredients, and that is where we should all be at this point.

My only laugh was when Fox said that Atkins Corp had been beieaguered by "dwindling popularity of the diet". I suspect it's not that the WOE itself is less popular, but that the people ON the WOE are all determined not to eat Atkins products and to follow Dr. Atkins' own advice to eat fresh foods and prepare them ourselves....lol

After it leaves bankruptcy, the Ronkonkoma, N.Y.-based company will focus on its nutrition bars and shakes, [President and CEO Mark S. Rodriguez] said in a statement.

          Re: Atkins bankrupt

Doesn't mean that any of US are going to give up on what we're doing to make ourselves healthier, though... Okay, so we may not be able to get frankenfoods - like THAT is going to be a loss!

The story has featured on news bulletins here in the UK too and you'd think that lowcarb was dead the way it's been reported. Not...

            Re: Atkins bankrupt

This is sad to hear that Atkins Nutritionals botched their business plan because a lot of folks who were 'thinking' about doing low-carb the Atkins way will relate this to the diet being out of favor.

Halleluia. Now, on with the business of eating healthy UNPROCESSED foods.

The "craze" may be over, but the lifestyle will never end!

That was the funny thing about the ANA and its foods. Dr. A always recommended shopping the periphery of the grocery store, and where were low carb items -- smack dab in the middle of the store or front of the aisle, trying to woo people. Phooey, broccoli, lettuce, peppers, and ribeyes will always be sold. They can keep their shakes and nasty bars. ("Good Eats" did a great show recently on low carb bars and their ingredients - not very appealing.)

We don't ever need a new edition of DANDR....Everyone that has lost
on this WOE---We KNOW WHAT WORKS in the long run...

Atkins Nutritionals tried to get greedy and changed what worked.
In the end-they lost. Greed never pays off in the long run.
Lesson learned. Long live this WOE. It works for a lifetime.
WOE that offers a healthy and happy life. NO more diets.

                      Re: Atkins bankrupt

I think we all need to brace ourselves for the coming months because I think that a lot of uneducated people are going to be happy to slam Atkins and low-carb in general as being 'fad' diets.

Hang in there, and focus on the fact that Atkins Nutritionals was a seperate entity than the actual Atkins diet. Promote the fact that the diet was never centered around frankenfoods and since no sales means no money, that's why the Nutritionals side went belly up.

I think that the Atkins way of eating is going to shine through this if everybody stresses that it's based on a wide variety of real food, and always has been.

I would echo what you guys said. After the Dr. passed the company didn't care about the WOL they just wanted $$$$. It's unfortunate that the news orgs relate the companies finacial sucess to the popularity of the diet. Not that I care if it's popular or not I think I will go and buy another book.....just as a show of support for Dr. A. Just to show the pinheads that we DO BELEIVE in this WOL, just not in the company trying to use Dr. A's name by pushing crap products that he didn't recammend.

I also think that it WAS a craze and a fad for a while. I think alot of people thought it was just this magical formula...just eat meat and magic bars and get skinny. Once they found out it includes working...working OUT....measuring...they ran outta here. Look at how many people sign up for this board WITHOUT reading the book!

                              Re: Atkins bankrupt

Controlled carbohydrate dieting (lifestyle) will ALWAYS be with us. Dr. Atkins didn't invent it; it goes back to William Banting in the 1800s. Dr. Atkins made it famous, did the research and wrote the book ... LONG BEFORE the junk lc foods ever showed up on store shelves.

Let anyone around me try and give this woe a bad rap.....How 'bout I hit 'em over the head with the 40 pounds that I lost and have successfully maintained for 3 1/2 years?
