  • Ketosis and Exercise

I'm wondering how important it is for me to be in ketosis if I am exercising 4-5 times a week? I seem to go in and out of it (according to the sticks, which I know are not the best indication) during the week and I am wondering if it will slow my loss of inches and weight if I'm not in ketosis the whole time I'm exercising. This may be a stupid question, but I'm new to this whole thing.
Also, I know about losing inches before I start to see a difference on the scale, but really how long do i have to wait?? Patience is not one of my virtues

Remember that DANDR advises that you testing with the test sticks that you do so at the same hour each day.

I know I can get a huge variation through out the day, if I test when I first wake up, I can show negative or the faintest trace but later in the day I'll show moderate.

Inches and your general feeling of well being are a more accurate indication of your progress than wee on a stick

      Re: Ketosis and Exercise

Well first you have to understand what ketosis is first. Then realise what happens when you exercise.

In ketosis your body is using fat as a fuel rather than carbohydrates because of their absence. Now, that fat maybe stored fat, or just fat you eat, but then by products of it is ketones. Some are deposited in your urine, some come out when you sweat, and some even when you are breathing.

When you ad exercise to the mix, you are speeding up your metabolisim. That same metabolisim thats burning fat, is now working more effeiciently. Also, as you exercise you are help building your body's ability to flush out your system so to speak. Now here is where the water part comes in. It to also helps flush out the system, but help keep your body in the prime mode of flushing. As you can see, my skill with scientific explanations is rather limited. hehe

One key point though. If you are exercising, most likely you are drinking lots more water which in affect, is diluting your urine. So I would just trash the sticks, they are hardly any use anymore lol. I just judge ketosis by the fact that I can go 8 hours with out eating...not a good idea, but its an ability.
