  • stivia/date sugar

    I for the first time have bought stevia drops. Please recommend how to use it. They also had powdered stivia leaves. Said it does not dissolve so how would you use that? Bake maybe? Also they had dehydrated date sugar with 3 carbs per TBS. Anyone have any experience with that?

    I woould probably ask that question down in the food chat section Lauren, but my experience with stevia has not been anything that I would like to brag about. It was expensive and then I used to much and it was way to bitter. I like the idea of a natural sugar substitute so I am just sorry I didn't know how to use it.

        Date sugar is sugar. Stevia is not sugar. I think the leaves are good in cooking and baking, but I've never tried it.

          I've never baked with stevia. I'm not a baker anyways, but it works well to sweeten tea. My husband makes a "shake" that he puts stevia in, but it's not exactly an atkins friendly shake, so I won't post the recipe. You might be able to find info on the net about baking with stevia. Not real sure though.

          I agree with Finelly, date sugar is sugar. I'd avoid it.

            As for the date sugar,this is what I found as well as nutrition for dates.
            Date sugar - is more a food than a sweetener. It is ground up from dehydrated dates, is high in fiber, and a long list of vitamins and minerals, including iron. Its use is limited by price and the fact it does not dissolve when added to liquids.
            Using date sugar - substitute one cup date sugar for each cup granulated sugar.

            Serving 5-6
            120 cals, 0 fat, 0 cholesterol, 0 sodium, 240 potassium, 31 carb, 3 fiber, 29 sugar, 1 protein.
