  • Becoming a bit Frustrated!

6 months have come and gone without any major hitches, and for that I am very gratefully! This board has been a wonderful support source for me throughout this whole time, and now I need more attention. For the last 12 days or so I have been up and down the same 2 lbs, and nothing seems to be happening. I started OWL a month ago, and things were working great! I have introduced more variety in my exercise regime, and continue to drink a ton of water! I know these stalls happen periodically, as I read about them all the time on this board. I have already lost 67 lbs, and am not complaining, but it is frustrating to be up and down like a yo-yo! I am determined to make goal this year, and will continue diligently, but need a bit of encouragement to get through this hump! Thanks for listening!

    Re: Becoming a bit Frustrated!

Exactly the same thing happened to me! I moved to OWL after five or six months on extended induction. All went great for a while but then I started yo-yoing up and down at the same weight for just over a month. Was really depressing. But then, suddenly things started moving again, just like that! I've been losing pretty steadily now for around three weeks.

Hang in there, and the stall will pass! The diet works, but occasionally it just goes walkabout!!!

    You can stick it out!

Other than great patience, you could try dropping down 5 carbs until you find your weight moving again. Keep dropping down 5 more carbs each week, I think that is what the book says to do if you stop losing for a period of time. Just thought...congrats on your success so far!

Oh, my goodnes Cruiser Gal I totally know how you feel I have had in total 1 6 week stall, 1 7 week stall and now I am going on a 2 week stall. Geese can we ever get a break. I have learned through all this patience and persistance pays of really it does in the long run. Your body may be having a small adjustment period have you started doing anything different in your exercise also have you added anything new in the last little while that may have made you stop losing that you didn't have before. I know you will figure out exactly what it is that is making the scale not move. You may also be going through what I call and inch sinch well that's where you don't lose but your pants are getting loser because your body is morphine. I am doing that right now. I ahve been losing a bunch of inches and up and down 5 pounds. The last time this happened I had a 10 pound whooshie oevr 2 weeks so who knows maybe it's your turn.

Don't lose faith in yourself sweety it will all come together and you'll lose some more weight we all have these little bumps in the raod but, in the end the path that we follow will bring us to VICTORY no matter how slow einding or rough, you will learn from this how your body works and become even more patient persistant and even more successful on your journey, you should be sooo extremely proud of yourself you ahve done so well in the 6 minths look at you 66 pounds DOWN that's like 11 pounds per month WOW.

You are amazing and inspiring, look out world here comes Cruiser hear her roar.

Keep it real and simple and the weight will follow

Thx Sarah, for that great reply. You really should be an inspirational speaker Come to think of it, I started some new exercise regime,,,,some kick boxing, and pilates in the last few weeks, as well as starting OWL a month ago! Think maybe that could be doing it? I'm still on a roll, and will not give up, not for a second, just wanted to vent abit, and feel sorry a lil bit for myself. I'm over that now!!!You're a real sweetie Sarah!!!

The exercise is probably what is causing the fluctuation come to think of it I have been exercising a lot more lately and that is probably some of the reason I am stuck too. Aren't we the pair. LOL

Sometimes it takes a while for the body to shift the pounds think of it you're doing somehting your body isn't used to it's sooo sore and what happens with that the body has to repair itself so it brings water to those sights of soreness boom there is your weight gain it goes up and down as your body adjusts to this new exercise and becomes more adapted to what you are doing. In the mean time your muscles are growing slightly and your fat is shrinking that explains any inch loss that you have. In the end with all the exercise you'll be a smaller more toned sexy you and that's what ya want.

Thanks for the compliment I am really good at writing what I feel but, to speak it it's hard I should have a computer with me at all times so that when someone makes me mad I could just get mad on the type writer LOL.

Take care glad you're feeling better.

Two words for you, Cruiser Gal.... comfort weight.

As we lose our bodies remember certain weights we maintained for long periods of time. The longer we were at that weight the longer it takes to bypass it. Good news is that ALL these comfort weight level barriers will eventually be broken.

Two more words that may help you. Patience and persistence!

Perry and Sarah are soooooooooo right! We have to OUT WAIT our bodies sometimes and that's difficult .. but worth it! Hang in there, sweetie .. YOU SHALL OVERCOME!! Great job with the exercise too!!

Watch your sodium intake too .. sometimes we overlook how much salt we eat.

                    Re: Becoming a bit Frustrated!

Stalls happen I had my first stall at 58 pounds gone and 12 weeks into my Atkins that I did everything every experienced Atkins person told me to do to bust it cut cheese cut onions cut this and that. FInally I just went back to the Atkins eating that had lost those pounds and the sczles started moving again. I had an 8 weeker at 200 pounds that drove me nuts, but I knew if I stuck with what had already worked for the last 7 months 100erland would come, a 12 week 6 day one that old timers here will rememeber that was finally medically corrected with correcting my thyroid levels. Check your chapter 15 of your DANDR and see if any of those things apply to you. Sarah can tell you sometimes it is because of medical issues that we get stalled and when those issues are corrected the scales move again.
One big thing supper heavyweights forget is as they lose weight their bodies don't need as many calories to do the exact same thing they were doing before. Females lose about 9 cals for every pound lost, so for a 66 pound loss you have lost 594 calories off your BMR. That will slow down your speed of loss unless you increase your exercise or adjust your caloric intake. Many folk find they are over eating their Atkins as they get smaller unless they artificiaslly kept their calories low during the beginning part.

And take heart at the last bit from Dr Atkins sometimes a plateau is just that.

Some times we are not really stalled either Don't forget as your weight fluctuates you can be losing fat and because you are using a scale and an old mindset think you are gaining and losing the same 2 pounds.
On Atkins we are losing body fat mass, gaining muscle mass and in a constant state of flux with our water mass soooooooooooo you can lose 3 pounds of fat mass add 1 pound of muscle mass and add 4 pounds of water mass and be very upset when you should be celebrating. That is also why Dr Atkins defined stalls as no scale weight loss nor inches lost neither for 4 weeks. Are you really stalled or are you just morphing and the inches are changing downward.

                    Happy OWLing.

Alot of times what happens when we start a new exercise regime, a person is stimulating a new group of muscles and what happens is the same thing when you first start working out. Muscles super hydrate.

Rember gal, Theres nothing you are doing wrong, if anything you are waiting for your body to catch up

Perry, I am glad you ellaborated about the comfort weight, becuase I was soon to ask a question about it.

Patience is definitely key. Youre doing all the right things. Stick with the plan, exercise and the weight will come off. You've done remarkably well for 6 months. I commend you. I too stalled at different times and I am sure it was comfort weight. Shake it up is my advice if you want to see it come off faster. A little more cardio and some weight training diligently always helps. Are you exercising in the a.m. before you eat anything? I believe in this whole heartedly. If you exercise prior to eating anything you really dig into your fat storage as you have no carbs to burn into. Whether low carb or not I truly believe this theory helps me the best.
Keep up the hard work. And remember, the harder you work the faster it comes off. When I say shake it up, I mean to do a higher carb one or two days and maybe for 2-3 days back off the carbs and add fat. When you add carbs, cut back on the fat a bit.....shake shake shake it up!
Make it a happy low carb life!
