  • Gall Bladder Removal and Weight Loss

I had my gall bladder removed 5 years ago - it was packed with gall stones.

Anyway, I'm wondering if not having a gall bladder affects how you lose on Atkins, or how low carbing affects your body when you have no gall bladder?

    Anyone know?

    Thanks!

I had mine removed about 2 years ago. It doesn't seem to be slowing me down. I think carbs irritate me more since it's removal to be honest.

You won't have any ill effects from it. You body is actually in a better state because its using the fat for fuel.

I, too, have done this woe without a gall bladder. I never had any problems at all.

Had mine removed a couple of years ago too...no problems. Mine was also packed to the hilt with stones. The surgeon gave them to me on my follow up visit and said "Here's your trophy." He couldn't believe how many I had! Some were big un's too.

I had mine removed 9 years ago. I don't think it's had any effect on my weight loss.

It's been a bit less than a year since I had mine out...woke up and asked the surgeon if I could have some damn chicken instead of the IV drip...lol...he almost fell over. On my follow up visit he commented on how well I healed and that I had fine muscle tone for someone nearly 50 YO. OTOH he wasn't a proponent of a low carb lifestyle...sigh...people.

gosh.. I had no idea gall bladder removal was so ' common' (for lack of a better word)...

honestly.. I only know one person without theirs.. so it's just interesting for me to learn it's really done more often than I thought..

I had mine when I started Atkins for eight months. I didn't have any more attacks doing Atkins than I did before I started. I had it out in January and haven't had any problems since. I think I lost at about the same speed before and after although I've slowed considerably now but I'm extremly close to goal.

Re: Gall Bladder Removal and Weight Loss

Thank you fellow Atkineers! I just get curious about things some times and figure I'll ask about it. I just wasn't sure if it would affect weight loss or related aspects of low carbing.

Bugaboo, my doctor left me with a little cup filled with my gall stones. They were actually kinda pretty - dark mustard yellowy smooth rock looking thingamabobs.

Lol cajun! I've still got mine too...they remind me of pebbles you find near a river. When I received my "trophy" I had to go to work afterwards and I was showing a girl that I work with when the shop manager and parts guy nosed into it and they were all "Whatta you lookin' at?" and I told them they didn't want to see but they insisted. The shop manager held it up and said "All of that was inside you? How big is a gallbladder anyway?" Lol. I show them on request only. Lol!
