  • weights?

This is maybe a dumb question but I wonder about it daily when I log in my food. When it says say 4 ounces of what ever meat is this cooked or uncooked?

That's not a stupid question at all. If you are using fitday.com, it will say in the description if it is raw, broiled, boiled, roasted, etc.

      Re: weights?

Well, since most meats don't have any carbs and the count would be zero, I don't think it really matters whether the meat is cooked or not, right?
I guess I have to say that they mean either raw, or cooked plainly, because the method of cooking could have an affect on the carb count...for instance if it was in a casserole or whatever.

You're using Fitday? Usually it gives you several options to choose from: raw, cooked without added fat, cooked with added fat etc.
If you aren't using Fitday here's a link to help you out:

When using Fitday, I usually would choose the raw option and then plug in whatever I cooked it in (butter, olive oil etc) because I never knew what they meant by 'fat' in their description.

      I think I over-answered your question...lol

        Re: weights?

I'm using a program called Nutricounter and it is on my Pocket PC (so I can have the information available at all times) Here is an example it says Beef ground X-lean 3 oz 217 cal and Beef ground fried 3 oz 234 cal. I assume ground extra lean may be not cooked and the beef ground fried is obviously cooked but was it for extra lean or not? We had steak last night and it says Steak Sirloin 3 oz s 183 cal, so is this cooked or not? I suppose it's not a big deal I've managed to get to 109 pounds not knowing the answer.

          Re: weights?

Geez...this drinking decaf in the morning does nothing for my cognitive abilities...I totally missed the point of your question.

So we're talking a difference in calorie count here due to fat being cooked off...I get it now.
It would be logical to assume the program means raw unless otherwise specified....is there somewhere you can email to ask them, just to satisfy your curiosity?

And big congrats on the weight loss!
