  • Hi! New here with a question on keytones?

    Hi everyone!

Just needed to pop in and ask a quick question. I just started on Atkins about two weeks ago. Everything is going great, So far I've lost six pounds.
Yesturday I went to the Doctor for some normal regular female related check up stuff and my Doctor was a little worried because I had a high level of Ketones in my urine, he mentioned Diabities as a concern. I'm pretty sure I'm in the clear with the Diabities issue but I did remeber that a low carbo/high protein diet has things related to keytones.

So my question is...Is this a sign that I'm on the right track?

    Thanks for any feed back..

    Hi sunkitty.

Yep. You're in ketosis, which is exactly what you want to be in on induction. There are huge differences between ketosis and ketoacidosis. If you get busy reading the sticky posts on the top of the forums, you'll learn a ton.

It's also time for you to get your hands on a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution and get to reading. It's essential to your health and success on the plan!

    I wish you success.

Yup! I think you are on the right track. You should mention to the doctor what you are doing, and that the ketones are a bi-product of your body using stored fat for fuel.

If you haven't 'studied' the book, it would be a good idea to re-read the sections about this. Most likely, what your doctor sees is a natural change in your metabolism. Judging from your post, doctor visits are a regular occurrence. If ketones in your pee just showed up now, you are probably doing great and nothing to worry about.

Listen to your doctor if there are concerns, but also know that communication goes two ways and that you should talk to her/him about what your are doing.

      Great work so far!

Just mirroring what the other posters have said... hootie hoo! You're doing fabuloso, girl!

Now, granted, doctor is confusing the positive and meaningful state of ketosis with ketoacidosis, you aere spot on, losing weight, and the next time he sees you you'll be less of a woman (weight-wise)!

          Thanks everyone!

I do own and have read the Doctors book. I guess I just wanted to get some positive feed back from everyone around here.. It feels good when you have the proof that your doing things right.

I was pretty sure it was something to do with the Atkins diet...As all of my past urine work has been fine.

I also did let the Doctor know about my new eating plan...he told me just to make sure I read up on it throughly to have a clear understanding if this is right for me.

          Thanks again.

Re: Hi! New here with a question on keytones?

sunkitty-- My doctor was uber-anti-Atkins when I started out at 325 pounds. Almost a year later I walked into his office, 107 pounds lighter. His jaw dropped.

There was no longer any question about whether or not Atkins was a quality lifestyle choice.

Your doctor will see, too! Congratulations to you on your success so far!
