  • Back again....got questions!

Oh boy has it been a long time since I've been around here! I looked at my profile and I think the last time I posted was August 23......2 years ago! Here's what's been going on for the past few years....

I went on Atkins at that time and it was because of this wonderful WOL that I discovered I had PCOS. I found a great doc and for the next several months my DH and I followed the Atkins diet, all the while TTC. In April of 2004 we finally got preggo and then on January 8th of this year we welcomed our baby girl, Madalen, to our family. So needless to say, I have a lot of gratitude going out to the Atkins diet!

Anyway...I thankfully only gained 20 lbs. during pregnancy (despite me and my doc's best efforts to get me to gain more!) and it came off relatively easily. In fact, for some reason it just kept coming off, despite the fact that I was eating food that was very bad for me and not exercising. I'm down to 150 which is 13 lbs. under my pre-pregnancy weight. I would like to lose 10 more lbs. This is where my questions come in:

My DH is really wanting to begin Atkins again and really stick with it this time (he did not do a strict induction like I did, he kind of half-assed it.) He's wanting to lose about 20-25 lbs. I on the other hand would only like to lose 10. I still need to get on induction just so I can get myself away from all the carbs and sugars. However, I don't need to lose the 15 lbs. that I know is possible in the induction phase. How can I do this? I want to help my DH with this because he is a huge bread-aholic and I know he needs to get serious with this WOL. How can we both get through induction and lose the weight we want when I don't want to lose as much as he does? Any ideas? We really both would like to stick with it for good this time. I know how great we both felt when we were following Atkins and we want that feeling again!!

I'm glad to be back and I look forward to talking with you all. Have a great Sunday!

    Re: Back again....got questions!

You will not lose 15 lbs during the two weeks of induction for the following reasons:

    1. You should expect to lose 5 - 10 % of the total amount you want to lose in induction, which would be about 2 lbs.

    2. The second time around, MOST people do not lose very quickly in induction.

So just get started, and after 2 weeks, move right on into OWL!

Welcome back! Please come on over to the Second Time Around forum where you will find a great group of people to hang out with!
