  • Do you Reward Yourself?

I've been noticing quite a few threads on goals and weight loss. I personally have not set any dates to lose weight by. I feel like if I missed it or fell short, I would feel like I failed; what I have done is set up rewards for myself when I do reach certain losses. It really makes me work extra hard to get to that goal to get my "goodie." Right now, my girlfriend is keeping my reward for 25 lb loss and I can't wait to get it!!

    Mine are:
    10 lb loss - 2 DVDs
18 lb loss - Salad spinner
25 lb loss - 14kt white gold bracelet
35 lb loss - Lingerie wardrobe additions
50 lb loss - Getaway Weekend and Massage
    100 lb loss - CRUISE !!! & diamond earrings

Does anyone else do something similar and what are your rewards?

I am extremely excited about that cruise!!! I've never been on one and I can't wait to wear a two piece bathing suit!! Woo hoo!!

A lot of people reward themselves.

I tend to reward myself every week with something like a pedicure or another nurturing physical thing. Actually, I try to do one nurturing thing for myself every two or three days.......

My last reward was the nicest piece of beef I could find. It was a disappointment on many fronts, but such is life! As long as that reward is part of your plan, it is okay. Giving yourself credit for weight lost and eating an item not on your journey to health is a step in the wrong direction.

Stay with the program, OWL, extended induction or pre-maintenance and the rewards should be obvious to you.

Every 5lbs is a new lippie for me.

10lbs is a new bottle of perfume.

25lbs was a trip to the salon for a new do.

So....I actually almost owe myself a new lippie again and before I'm done, I'll have a new bottle of perfume (or actually - replace a bottle I've used up!).

Considering that I've been overweight/obese my entire life, I consider the weight loss and the compliments I get reward enough. However, I did decide that I would get new clothes when I reached my minor goal of 180lbs. Though I did it for practical reasons, it still served as an incentive for me.

              I'm with matawguro.

Having been a large marge for years now, for me, reward is stepping on the scale and feeling great!

I buy new clothes as I need them, so I don't set goals in terms of pounds.

For me, I don't know why, setting the pound goals just do nothing to either motivate me or keep me going. For me, I am losing weight because there are things in life that I want to do and can't as an obese person.

So, for me, the reward isn't based necessarily on a set weight point, but on the overall success of taking off the weight and, more importantly, keeping it off.

Maybe the goal for me to set isn't a weight goal, but a maintenance one once I hit my weight goal.

                  Re: Do you Reward Yourself?

I never planned rewards during my weight loss. I'm not even buying new clothes yet, I get them at the thrift store because I don't plan to be hanging around in them for long.

I do get my hair done and take better care of myself, but its not geared around any particular number on the scale.

One thing I did say when I first started Atkins back in March 2004 was that IF I could lose 100 pounds, I'd go to see my favorite band in concert. They hadn't been in concert in many years and I didn't really think that would happen. But, I have tickets for Nov 22nd to go see them. And...I am sitting front row center, I can't wait!!

                    Re: Do you Reward Yourself?

I don't do specific rewards for specific achievements.

Being able to go into 'regular' size stores has been an adventure and a reward to me, so occasionally I'll buy something for myself. Many times if it's too small but on a really good deal, I'll buy it anyway and put it on my 'test' pile. I've received an absolute TON of second hand clothes from my sister and her friend, so another reward has been when I re-try them on and something new fits.

I bought new underwear the other day that is a size smaller because I realized mine were bagging all over the place...that was pretty exciting.

I also treated myself to some new nose studs....something with a bit of sparkle so I could switch out with the little gold ball I currently wear.

                      I have rewards!

They are things that will help me go further in weight loss usually.

Like I want some new track pants, but I thought, hey, make that a reward! In 4.6 more lb I will HAVE those pants!

And I'm way stoked to get an IPOD so that keeps me truckin' during my workouts
