I was at my retail job today, and my coworker was asking me how my atkins journey was going, a kid overheard (this girl was in her teens) and proceeded to tell me how "bad" atkins was for my body and she was wearing some shirt that said in glittery lettering "I love my carbs" with a cow and a pig dancing underneath the lettering. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! Who is she to tell me how to run what I eat? Her mother offered some kind of apology by saying "shes really into disliking atkins" as if she was embarrassed by her daughers words, but it was not an apology of any kind. I was quite miffed about it, and when they came to check out, I walked away and said "sorry break time, someone else can help you" even though it wasnt. Yeah it was pretty petty of me, but I refuse to help people that are rude to me. It wasnt even like I was talking to this girl!

Re: Un-freaking-believeable
So sorry that that happened to you!! It's a pain in the hind quarters when an uneducated person proclaims what is "best" for you.
That used to happen to me every so often. Once I even was standing in line at the grocery store, with 6 dozen eggs in my basket. (hey...they were on sale!!) The guy in front of me started in on why I shouldn't eat those. I gave him my standard line......something to the effect of "Thanks for your concern, but no plan is right for everyone, and I've found the one that works for me...and I have the perfect lab results to prove it." Then I refuse to discuss it any longer.
A good approach is to come up with your universal "line" that will work in a variety of situations...decide on it ahead of time, and practice it if necessary. Then, when someone spews their so-called knowledge, just recite your line, many times if necessary, then refuse to discuss it any longer. After all, you don't have to justify your life decisions to anyone...
Good luck!!

Re: Un-freaking-believeable
I use the line "My doctor fully supports it, as long as it's a lifestyle change and not just for the quick weight loss."
It was very rude of her. Too late and I probably never would have thought of it at the time, but when her mom said she's very into disliking Atkins that would have been fun to reply to with "then perhaps she should learn what the program is really about before she tries to bash it!"
Lots of ignorance out there. I'm sure glad we know better!!

Re: Un-freaking-believeable
I've always been tempted to keep a 6" twig in my pocket for people like this.
These are the people who generally whiz in the cornflakes of others for their own amusement, their own selfishness, or for other personal--yet selfish-- reasons.
I would take the twig beneath my fingers, and then drop it discretely.
I would then pick it up and say, "Oh my!" to the person, which would stir some momentary interest on their part wondering what I'd discovered on the floor.
I would smile as I delivered the final commentary, picking up the twig between two fingers I would present it to the rude person and state "Look! I found the stick that was lodged up your butt!"

Re: Un-freaking-believeable
It matters not what an unschooled child feels about your adult eating lifestyle - and her unsolicited comments should have been apologized for by her almost equally-cloddish mother. Daesania, keep with what you're doing. After all, you've already lost 9 pounds so far ... not a far cry from a full dress size! Before you know it, you will be at goal.
Chances are you do not feel veganism is for you; however, it does have its many health benefits and obviously works for many. That said, if you met a longtime vegan whose program is backed by her physician, who's in fabulous shape, with gorgeous, luminous skin, abounding energy, an excellent prepossession, with outstanding blood work, and who has enjoyed these health benefits for many years ... would you question what she did, much less possibly find actual unsolicited, accusatory fault with it?
Chuckle off those know-nothings who do with yours. The truth is, you will find these negative comments occur less and less as you inch toward goal - and most importantly, remain there permanently. At this point, everyone will be just dying to know your secret! Hang in there.

Re: Un-freaking-believeable
Yes i guess there are anti-atkins tshirts, it did not look home made, looked like some mass produced thing.
As far as veganism goes, I couldn't do it sheia, I hate veggies with a passion, but I wont go and tell people they're wrong. I'm just jealous I cant do it! lol I love my meats and the only veggies I can really eat are the common ones (lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, corn, peas, etc.)Last edited by Daesania; September 4, 2005, 05:03 PM.

Re: Un-freaking-believeable
Cleo you always know how to clown somebody!! LOL!!
Don't trip off of "ear hustlers" she has a serious problem with her fast butt!!! Its obvious she runs her mother, and you did the right thing by walking away because you were on your job and nobody is worth that! I'm proud of you that you didn't go there! But giiiiirl if that was in another setting, you should've told her "Nobody was talking to you little girl! Stay in a little girl place!!" If she started up, her mother would've stepped in and you could've shook your head and walked away laughing inside. But, kids like that make me wanna

Re: Un-freaking-believeable
Hi Daesania! Fellow Nebraskan!! I am mostly disgusted by the mom here. She missed a valuable opportunity to educate her daughter in politeness (so many parents do these days). I would never knowingly allow my child to wear a potentially hurtful shirt. But that's just me.

LOL Cleo, that's hilarious. I completely understand why you'd be mad Daesania. That girl had no point in commenting on your lifestyle. Teens can be rude, if I might say so myself, even though, I'm not one of them, lol.

Re: Un-freaking-believeable
There are bumper stickers that I have seen to. So, it isn't just T-shirts. I don't care really. Doesn't make me want to yell at anyone. They have the right just like I do to not agree with someone else. Of course, I do not ever go and butt in and yell at them and tell them they are wrong and will get sick and whatever else.F/30
