When I was first introduced to Atkins, the book I bought allowed low-carb desserts during induction. This is the process I followed the first time I lost over 30 lbs. on Atkins. So this is all I've known.

I started out following the 1979 version of Atkins! Now I understand why you think desserts on induction are ok! I was thinking you were tweaking the 2002, but you're following a different version. Still, the company line is that the 2002 version takes into account all the scientific finds which took place, hence the need for the updates, which render previous versions moot, technically.
I just have to play a little bit of CYA because the 14-day induction forum here is by the book (the 2002 version), not your or my original versions.
{{{nutri}}} Thank you for helping that little lightbulb pop on in my head!
What is the science behind not consuming low-carb desserts during induction? As best as I can tell, consuming them has not stopped the weight loss or caused me to want the "real thing" anymore than usual.

Nutri-nut. The reasoning behind cutting the sweets in the first 14 days is that due to our high intolerances for anything which breaks down into sugar in our blood stream or acts as sugar (one of the reason sugar alcohols, aspartame and splenda are so controversial), we won't ever be able to 'detox' from sugar. Even tasting something sweet or pacifying our sweet tooth in low-carb ways is seen as a pejorative because as sugar is a powerful drug, so too are we still eating the drug-lite, and are never fully ridding ourselves of the cravings. The more a person craves sweets, especially in the first 14 days, according to Atkins, the more he or she must stay away from them. He also states that our bodies are not meant for so much sugar in our diets and that sweet items should be limited to those natural fruits and berries on the appropriate rungs of the OWL ladder.
But to eradicate them immediately (and then add them back in slowly) gets rids of initial cravings for sugars and keeps us from going nuts when we are, finally, re-introduced to sweet (natural) things.
Luckily, I've never been addicted to sweets. But I'm addicted to pizza, so, as an example, I would never even eat bikergoddess pizza in induction because my body and mind treats it just like the real thing. The same thing goes for the sugar addict.
I notice while shopping in Wal Mart and other places that stores seem to no longer carry a majority of the once-popular low-carb pre-packaged foods and mixes.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They're getting the message that we don't want the junk!
Keep doing what you're doing & you'll keep getting what you're getting!!!
I'm not a big fan of low-carb products. I'd rather make things from scratch. I was just surprised to see the shelves cleared. Our local Kroger has a health food section and used to include low-carb products. They no longer carry the low-carb products.
As far as low carb desserts, I don't like most of them; but I have found a few things I enjoy and eat them occasionally. Most of the time, I'd rather have a hamburger with lettuce, onion, and pickles.
I am so glad I got back to this WOE. I had forgotten how good I used to feel and have learned just how badly I DID feel eating the high carb junk. This definitely suits my body and metabolism best.

{{{Nutri}}} You go, girl! But stay away from the sugar substitutes or I'm going to tug at your bellybutton. And if I do that and it unravels and you go fwooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosh all over the living room, it is SO not my fault.
But to answer your question, TTdriver, the last time around I gave up all splenda stuff for 2 weeks. It did nothing. I didn't crave it, and I still don't. I just LIKE something sweet once a day. <shrug>

Is this product anything like the Atkins Bake Mix? I tried the Atkins Bake Mix, and it was horrible! I couldn't swallow whatever I baked with it. I have found this to be true of other low-carb baking mixes. I don't know what it is - perhaps the soy flour in it - but the baked products cannot be swalled easily. I choke on it!
Nope it's nothing like atkins bake mix. it's actually a low carb equivalent of bisquick (has leavining agents in it so it's not a substitue for flours in recipes). good for biscuits, pancakes, batters etc. It's not made from soy, it's made from wheat. But it's definately not for induction.
though to save $$ i usuallyjust do what sugar free sheilah does and cook with natural ingredients, cocoa, flax wheat bran etc, once i hit the rungs that they were allowed on.
