  • I am so frustrated and ready to give up!

Just read a sticky from the Second-Time Around board about how slow losing weight can be the second time on Atkins. I've passed the two week mark, and I'm not losing. My clothes don't feel any better. It's so difficult to stay motivated when all the sacrifices I'm making don't result in my goal - weight loss. What frustrates me to no end is that there is nothing else out there short of starving that works for me. I guess I just need to accept my weight and tell everyone who makes a comment about it to just BITE ME.

Honey, give yourself and your body some more time !!!!
I am really really sure this WOE also works for you, but it needs to get over this hump.
Like Cleo said in the other thread I think your fatcells are trying to resist, somehow they feel that if they persist in not losing just a bit longer, that you will give up and they win.
When I started Atkins I also had this standstill in the beginning but I stayed on the diet and there it started: I was melting!!!
Also, I know for sure that when you really think about it you KNOW you will lose in this WOE and that it WILL work, don't give up just now, YOU CAN DO IT !!!

        Post what you've been eating.

I know you just came off a binge and that takes awhile to get back to losing. Things go much better when you don't eat off plan.

Re: I am so frustrated and ready to give up!

Okay...this is just my opinion..you can take it or leave it....but if you had cheats or binges during your two weeks you cannot sit there and complain that this WOE is not working for you or how many sacrifices you are making...I mean...if you don't follow the rules you cannot expect to get the results. No...it isn't easy..but come on...for yourself you should commit to a clean 2 weeks of induction. Post everything everyday if that is what it takes to make you accountable. But don't say it doesn't work if you aren't doing it the way it was intended. Only you can decide whether it is worth it or not. So...how much are you worth?? Worth enough to invest 2 weeks into?? I am betting you are!
Enter everything into fitday...plan ahead...drink your water...stop when you are full....post your menu to the list along with your percentages and grams. And be patient.
Or you could just give up and be sitting there a year from now having done nothing and be the same size or bigger wishing you had started now...so why waste all that time when you could be at goal by then possibly.
Again..just my opinion...what do you think?

Re: I am so frustrated and ready to give up!

I don't understand what Elsie was talking about because the original poster said nothing about cheating or not following plan.

I couldn't tell that I lost much until I was down 20 pounds. It was frustrating. Then I realized that I was pouring myself into my size 20 jeans. I was really a 22. So it took a very long time to see size 18 jeans. Don't get frustrated, just stick to it. You will see results soon. Believe me. I started in April thinking I would lose some weight. I am now down 50 pounds, wearing size 16 jeans, and I'm almost in onederland. You should also know that many of us didn't lose much in the 3rd and 4th week on plan, and then the weight loss really started. Please stick with it a bit longer. You will be soooo happy you did.

I'm talking how Betty said she knew that Nutri had just come off a binge when replying to her.

O.K. So sorry Elsie. Somehow I missed that when reading the posts.

I you binge, you can count on not losing until your body gets back into ketosis again. That makes me want to stick to plan.

Re: I am so frustrated and ready to give up!

You probably already read this, but I'm posting it again to remind you that, as women, we have fat cells with the memory of a jilted girlfriend!

Don't be hard on yourself. I know you are frustrated! Sometimes our thighs are a little more revengy than we'd like them to be. Are you exercising? If not, you really want to go for the fat burn through exercise. It makes all the difference, especially when our fat cells are doing this --->

                  {{{Nutri}}}

Evolution and adaptation of the female form

As women, our fat cells are fighting back! So oftentimes we find that on this way of eating, our fat cells (especially if we are women) rebel. Bred for survival, as you already know, the female has to be able to sustain long periods of famine, and so our hips and legs hold fat. This is also for the purpose of bearing life under said conditions.

That said, everytime we lose and gain, it does become more difficult to get rid of the weight momentarily.

Our female fat cells are saying

<--she did this to me before

<---- c'mon hip and thigh, she doesn't mean it! Just hang onto that fat. She'll cave!

<--- Wait a ding dang minute! She's really doing it this time!

It is of uber-importance that we don't give those fat cells a reason to think we're going to repeat the cycle. Like little nannobots of adipose, they are already at work, sitting about, waiting for the day they can be free and party again inside your right thigh.

We can't give them that chance!

                  Out! Out darned fat!

You are going to lose that fat! It's just hard because we have to first rectify what we've done to teach our fat cells to be more of a problem than we thought they'd be.

There's an excellent book called "Outstmarting the Female Fat Cell" by Debra Waterhouse. While I wouldn't follow her eating plan (low-fat, low-cal--I did it and was hungry all the time), her scientific principles and understanding of the evolution of the female fat cell merit a good read. They are very sound. I highly recommend that if you have time, borrow it from your local library or you can find it used at Amazon.com.

Re: I am so frustrated and ready to give up!

                    No problem Michele.

It wasn't really the fact that she ate off plan that I was responding to. You and I both gave positive support to that email.

But this one is saying that she not losing and making all these sacrifices and how it is not working and that the only thing that will work may be starving herself. So that kinda makes me mad because if she quits without giving it her all she will be saying yeah..I tried that it didn't work at all...and that kind of talk is right up there with the media stuff like Atkins is no carb and stuff your face, eat all you want and all the other BS that it prints.

So while I can be encouraging and supporting when someone falls off the wagon..I can't when it comes to someone who started Sept 3 and has cheated saying the plan isn't working when they are not working the plan.

So it was more addressed to that. Sorry Nutri_Nut...but please please please stop defeating yourself..you are worth more than that!
