  • Round One - TO ME!!!!!!!!

Today I had to go shopping for some fairly inconsequential things. I decided on a whim, to actually see what size I was - clotheswise I mean.
I popped into a shop I hadn't been into prior to starting this WOE.Bearing in mind that in this self same store I last bought a pair of jeans size UK20 - in May.
Tried on a 20 - way too large. Got a UK18. STILL too big. Tried a UK16 - bit BIG but they fit.
I am stunned. I've only lost 24lb - how come? Ok I'm still a 22-24 top which makes me look a bit disproportionate but who cares. I'm now classed as the UK AVERAGE size for women. You can bet I'll work that into every conversation in the next couple of weeks.
5 weeks ago had I had a bad experience. I was passing Monsoon and went to have a look at the sales. A skinny snot nosed assistant stopped me at the door and said "Excuse me madam, but I don't think our sizes quite go up to yours. Try a Plus-Siz shop".
I gave her a dressing down and wrote the company a dignified and mature but strong letter. It really hurt though, I can admit that now.
Now normally I'm a fairly reserved person, not given to many impulses, but flushed with my success today I just happened to pass Monsoon on my way home. Lo and behold I spy the same snot nosed assistant. To **** with dignified and mature. I sashayed in there; picture this, short frizzy haired woman, jumping up and down, waving said SIZE 16 jeans in snot-nose's face yelling "Read it and weep, sweetie, SIZE 16, SIZE 16, In YOUR FACE- honeybunch! I can buy anything I like in this goddamned place now" (actually that was libellious, I can't even afford a Monsoon carrier bag at present, but hey, she doesn't know that).
This is a moral victory. I dedicate it to the losers on this board, big and small, past losers and those yet to be. Let's stick it to 'em!

Squeaker you rock! I'm humming "Pretty Woman". Remember that scene in the movie where she goes back to the store that wouldn't serve her the first time and she says "Hi rmember me? You work on commission, right?" (holds up clusters of carrier bags) "Big mistake - huge!" and struts her little booty out of there. I can just see you doing that. LOL Good for you. And you're cool and she's snot-nosed so you already had one up on her anyway.

Now that's funny! I love that feeling when your shopping for clothes and have to buy the next size (or two) smaller. Once I hit a 34 waist (down from a 40) I was in such shock I thought it was labeled wrong and tried on at least 5 pairs of other brands just to make certain it was me that was smaller and not a mistake! Congrats on your success!

LOL! Very empowering for you I am sure.

What I can't get over when I read about salespersons like this is that how the heck do they know whether or not you are shopping for one of your kids or for a gift or something. I hope never to have an experience like that!!

That is just th rudest thing I have ever heard. I mean even a fat woman should be able to go into any store. You might be shopping for a gift for someone. Jeese, some people are so stupid!!!!!! And not trained very well in sales either. Rule #1 in sales is not pi$$ off the customer. haha

Way to go for getting in the smaller jeans. I have save my favorite jean outfit (jeans and a vest) and hope to fit back into them by the end of the year. I have not saved anything else I figure I get that small again I'm getting all new stuff. So that one outfit is my kind of like my first goal/gage.

that was exactly what I thought - I could have been going in there for some one else easliy.
After posting yesterday I checked them out on a website, a lot of people have some pretty uncomplimentary things to say about their practises, appparently they are far from a "fair trade" company! So fi I hadn't already had that experience I'd be vetoeing them anyway!
LadyinRed - I must be the only person in the world who hasn't seen "Pretty Woman", but my mother did the self - same thing back in a store in the '60's! Awkwardness must run in the family!
