Re: Going to war with my kids' family consumer science teacher....

Would you allow for a compromise....letting your son make three meals that are allowable in your household-if she were to agree to this?
That's exactly what I proposed in the last paragraph to her. I think it's a more than acceptable compromise. So many people have various diet restrictions for various reasons - health/religion, etc - so it seems obvious to me that there would be room for compromise as a result. Just because our limitations come dressed in the label "low-carb" doesn't give this woman the right to stand and tell my kid that I"m making unhealthy choices. She'd better be able to back it up ....but then no one warned her that *I'm* Aaron's mom

Finelly, I CC'd this letter to the principal just for that reason. Thank you very much for your input - seriously. You validated several things for me and I appreciate it.

Thanks again, everyone. We'll see what happens from here and I promise to keep ya posted!

Re: Going to war with my kids' family consumer science teacher....

That's another thing. As a teacher, I would NEVER EVER EVER tell a student of mine that his or her parents are WRONG. A teacher is a parent's PARTNER, not adversary. If I have a question I contact the PARENT; I wouldn't dream of dissing the parent to the child. How disrespectful! How anti-education! And what a way to make the child feel divided loyalties.

Re: Going to war with my kids' family consumer science teacher....

Ahhh, for the good old days, when PARENTS bore the responsibility for choosing how to raise a child, and teachers taught reading, math, spelling and grammer.

                  SIGH.

We just went through it with joining the PTA ( I wont, for social reasons), and Halloween, which the school makes a big deal out of.

You could argue that as an Obese person, you have what is now defined as a "disease", one that your children are prone to also... and eating by your way has allowed you to be in remission. She wouldnt want your children to be without a mother, would she?

                  Argh... good luck with this.

Way to go Brooke. That letter was to the point, with facts and figures and written eloquently. Please let us know the outcome!

this is precisely what I was thinking, where does this lady get off? I had some pretty poor teachers at school and all this sounds horribly familiar.
I hope you get a favourable outcome - you deserve it.

I know this is off-topic, but I love that analogy, womanpraised!!!

Brook - I'm hoping that this letter sets the teacher straight and your son can fulfill the homework assignment as you approve of it. What I'm afraid of is that you've just started a pissing war with this woman, and it might not end so easily!! I'm dying to know what's happening next!

Brilliant! Too bad it's just one letter to just one teacher. Have you considered writing a book on this? Telling your story? You are so eloquent. Can't wait to hear what happens next.

I don't mind a solid debate and a good fight. It's one of those things that gets the blood going and entertains me, right wrong or indifferent. Had she chose to argue the merits of high carb vs low carb, she'd have gotten a completely different response from me - but she had the nerve to stand there and tell my son that I'm making unhealthy choices with long term consequences, and then couldn't back it up to an almost 14 year old. Let's see what she's got with me. I have to wonder if she's as vocal and opinionated with children whose parents smoke or work in a nuclear reactor or drive race cars. LOL All of those things are easily arguably more dangerous than eating the ~~dreaded low-carb~~ way, and I doubt she'd have the gumption to spout off about those things, yet this is okay?

Methinks Aaron's not the only one about to get an education in that school. I'm not looking to get into a pissing contest with this woman, but if that's what she wants she'll figure out that- well, it's just silly to get into a pissing contest with a bigger pr*ck.

If he takes the zero, it won't be without a fight, and Finelly had some excellent points and suggestions that I'm going to use if I have to as well. (Thank you!)

Megs, I've got a ton of it too, but if I need it, I'd sure appreciate permission to PM you for it. Thank you!!

Thanks again for your support, everyone. Just another example of people talking when they should be listening, and I'm glad to know it wasn't just me that thought she was out of line!
