  • And doesn't the geometry change?

I got into some *trousers today with a waist that measures a close 37" - down from 44" - that was 4 stones and 18 months ago.

But it's more than just a scaling down - the whole geometry changes and becomes more comfortable.

Whereas men find their trousers hang better and they hang better in them I suspect women find the most radical changes and improved comforts are above the waist.

I don't know if I can put it more delicately than that.

    *Sorry, I mean pants.

Hi hear ya man! I am down from a 44 myself to a 36 and the thing I used to have a problem with was I always had really big legs. So I'd have to get baggy jeans or pleated pants or a larger size pant just for my legs. It was pretty bad...now it's great! I can get designer jeans, flat front pants, whatever I want...and you do feel, er, more comfortable all over!

Hi Higgies. I was in one of the biggest Marks and Spensers in the country on Saturday. (One of the United Kingdom's biggest and best known chain of Clothing Stores)

I spent some time in Mensware while she was looking in the Bra Department. I didn't buy anything, but it was good to wander round and say to myself, "I could wear that, and that, and that . . . "

Even better, a couple of weeks ago I said to my 19 year old son "Where did you get that belt." (Thinking the two inch wide canvas belt he was wearing would stop a pair of jeans I bought at the beginning of the summer from falling down.) I went into the shop he told me and could say the same: "I could wear that, and that, and that . . . " I say even better because the shop called Next cuts a rather younger image than Marks and Spenser, and I still thought (at 56) I could both fit and wear many (though not all) of the casual clothes there displayed.

I say this not (or not only) to pat myself on the back but to offer encouragement to members: stick with the programme - it works.

(And you Yanks will just have to humour me with my quaint British spelling.)
