I was in my local vitamin world the other day, picking up some vitamin E for my recent peircing and saw they had a dual magizine called healthsmart today and physique smart. The HST had an article about low-carb diets, including atkins. I was proud to see a semi-informed article. I was disappointed to see that they did not mention that atkins (and as I'm sure most other LC diets do) suggests that you take supplements. In fact, isn't there a chapter that comments "don't try it without (the supplements)!"
Anyways, the article recomended firm tofu, dark greens, fortified soy milk, light yogurt topped with raw bran and broccoli dipped in salad dressing. Interestingly, there was a sidenote that the dressing should be made with whole, unfiltered, unprocessed veg oil to "keep it healthy" but anyways, what's the stand on soy?
At what point would (could?) you add soy milk and firm tofu? Fitday says soy milk has about 1 net carb per cup and firm tofu has about 2 net carbs per slice. Tofu isn't listed under induction, so I know its not there. I'm guessing sometime in owl, but again, where? What about yogurt? I work at Mrs. Feilds, so I'm sure the cookie fumes have messed with my brain as I cant seem to find it.
Also as a sidenote, it refers to Atkins as a "popular diet" and "wacky" which disapointed me while it refered to a vegetarian diet as "a long term eating plan rather than a weight-loss diet". However, it also mentioned that this plan was good because it forces you to realize what you're putting into your body. I guess I'm just happy and ready to share because its not all doom and gloom when it points to atkins.
