  • atkins after low cal

    Hi,

I made the decision a short while ago to go for Atkins. I've read 4 books and bought a low carb cookbook , all I need right now is a quiet moment in my life to get started. The boyfriend and I just bought a house and we are hardly ever home , so between work and all the appointments there's not much time to think about starting a new routine. In a few weeks , things will have slowed down , I hope.
But I still have one concern , will atkins help me lose weight? I used to count calories , eating nothing but meal replacements. I only ate about 600 cals per day.
I really want to do atkins as I believe my body will thank me for it. But I'm so nervous that instead of losing the last lbs 10-15 , I will gain much more.
I also read an atkins book review on amazon that stated that atkins shouldn't be used to lose "vanity" pounds. Now , I'm not fat , my weight is within healthy ranges , BUT I'm flabby , basically that weight is good , the fat percentage is not. I really have some fat deposits (measured at a good gym) that I want gone. I try to excercise regularly (pilates , ballet type training , cross trainer and running), will this with atkins help me shed those last fat deposits?

    thanks!

yes, that's what it's all about. You put your body into ketosis and then you're burning up fat for energy instead of the carbohydrates that your body is used to burning for fuel. It'll be good for you. It's definitely better than counting calories. I never liked doing that. The atkins diet is easy. Just stick to it!!!!!!

It's a better idea not to treat Atkins as a 'diet'. Atkins is a healthy way of eating, and treating as a lifestyle change, or way of eating is going to help you not only lose the weight, but also maintain it.

I suggest you start with induction but move right onto Ongoing Weight Loss after the two weeks, since you don't really have much to lose. It's very important that you climb the rungs, and find out your CCLL or ACE and learn if you have any food intolerances. Keep in mind, the less you ahve to lose, it will take a little longer to lose. This isn't a crash diet where you will lose x lbs by x days weeks.

Make sure you keep up your exercise, eat your daily limit of veggies and drink lots of water!

      Good luck!

        Hello Elke

This WOE will be sure to get the results that you want. Like you I did not
have that much to lose and was for sure in the 'acceptable' weight range.

You will not lose the weight in large amounts as many report within the first
couple of weeks, however you will notice the difference within a few days
as you lose the water weight and inches.

It is easy to think that you can slack off or maybe cheat a little some as
you don't have much to lose, trust me this is the Kiss of death!

Limit your creams, mayo and chesses to the max amounts allowed
for induction, I have to have less than the max as they slow my
        loss down...

Make sure you get some physical activty in, ideally daily. 40 mins
of hard cardio 6 days a week with 1 day off for a yoga class does it for me.
Drinking lots of water is as important as the food intake and sport.

I also cut out pork rinds, as they were a no no for me also. Which I
loved until I found a pig hair on one, needless to say giving up was
somewhat easier after this grim experience .

This routine works wonders for me, legs, thighs and tum see results
very quick. Once I started this routine and stuck to it with no
slacking anywhere, I was at goal within 3 weeks. I hate to say
that as this is NOT a quick fix to shed pounds but a great
way of living, but that's the time frame it took me.

Remember the smaller you are or get, the less calories you need. I did
watch calories to a small degree.

Good luck, stay firm in your desire to see results and reap the rewards.

Well, you've tried the other stuff and it's not working, I'd say you have nothing to lose but fat! Seriously, this diet works. Period. There are a few people who don't lose, get frustrated, and quit, but I think their not following the plan exactly. I think a combination of your exercises and Atkins will let you lose the weight you want. Good luck and I hope you give it a shot.

Hi and welcome. I think you've been given some great advice. I especially agree with Sadie and Sallyb. This is a way of eating for life not just a quick fix for losing those extra pounds.

              Hi all,

thanks so much for replying me and setting my mind at ease a bit.
I know that atkins is not a "diet" but a WOE for life. But the word diet is something I'm so used to saying.
I am convinced now that atkins will help me reach my goals as all the rest fails. My weight is good , but I don't like the way I look. I'd my rather be a bit heavier in weight , but have a good body composition. Now , my hip bones stick out , my ribs stick out , with a bulging belly in between. And even not eating doesn't get rid of this. So I'm sure that all the traditional "healthy eating" plans are just bogus, as they never seem to deliver the right results.
Over the next few days , I will start planning some easy low carb meals , do my shopping and as of next week , take the plunge.
              people , I'm doing atkins !

                From www.dictionary.com
                1. The usual food and drink of a person or animal.
                2. A regulated selection of foods, as for medical reasons or cosmetic weight loss
                3. Something used, enjoyed, or provided regularly: subsisted on a diet of detective novels during his vacation
                and the derivation
[Middle English diete, from Old French, from Latin diaeta, way of living, diet, from Greek diaita, back-formation from diaitsthai, to live one's life, middle voice of diaitn, to treat.]
So strictly speaking you CAN call it a diet!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
