  • Ketosis = Success?

Hi. There's a lot of talk about sweeteners causing weight stalls and other factors getting in the way or causing a problem.

But, as long as you are in ketosis, does that mean everything is ok, you're succeeding on Atkins? Or is there anything else to it?

I know you don't have to be in ketosis to experience success but if you are in it, can you rest-assured that what you're doing is working / ok.

    Thanks guys

Well, yes and no. You don't have to be in ketosis to lose weight, and you won't automatically lose weight if you are in ketosis. I think it was Not2Late who posted about someone who was in ketosis, but wasn't losing any weight. Come to find out, this woman was eating a whole stick of butter every night, or something like that. The point is, ketosis just means that your body is burning fat. You still need to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight. I don't know how artificial sweeteners affect ketosis.

I'd say that unless you're eating butter sticks like popsicles, it's definitely a sign of success if you are in ketosis.

Ketosis is a fantastic appetite suppressant, but being in ketosis does not equal weight loss success. If you eat more than you take in, it's not going to matter if you're in ketosis or not.

The sweeteners are more likely to cause cravings (for some) - which will in turn cause people to eat more - which = stall. Dr. Atkins said that aspartame was clinically shown to cause stalls/cravings. This is not something I've experienced myself.

yep all ketosis means is you are burning fatd for fuels you can eat 20 pounds of butter a day be lovely dark purple on your sticks and gaining wieght.

Usually the stalls with sweetners have to do more with a personel intolerance of that product or the amount of total cals in the low carb product that sweetner is in like the Atkins dessert cake was 24 effective carbs for the whole cake but well over 3000 cals so if you were in OWL and you have 25 net carbs you could technically eat that whole cake and stay below your carb level but the cals would kill your weight loss. As Dr Atkins said in chapter 11 Q and A if total cals in exceed total cals burned from all sources you wil gain weight no matter what program you are eating. Low carbing Atkins WOE allows us to conmsume more total cals then a high carb dieter because it takes more cals to turn the food to energy in the fat burning clycles then it does in the carb burning clycle about 25% more for the Atkins plan vs the USDA high carb plan.

        happy low carbing
