Pretty much. It really is that easy. Just don't eat it.

Halloween starts the dreaded Holiday PigOut season where everyone goes on and on about pigging out then come January1 all of a sudden there's this urgent need to diet. So glad I got past that mess forever.

      Exactly!

This can either be a new and fun tradition with the kids and not putting emphasis around food,

or this can be the first fat day of the rest of the year where food just becomes the raison d'etre week after week after week.

Hallowween is a major gateway drug for the Atkins person who has a real sugar addiction.

Like 2big says, don't feed that monster or even let it look at that sugar. It is not worth it.

YA, halloween is one of those fun days I guess but, stupid Talk about teaching kids the wrong thing I agree with you Betty.

You know what I don't need to prepare for anything I have worked too hard too long and want it too bad to screw it up just cause I feel I need a piece of candy. I you are ready to lose the weight then no candy in the worlld will tempt you period. For you Cleo sniffing might work don't tell people to try it though it could result in a big Binge, if I would have had one sniff when I started I would have ate an entire bag of candy so I don't think it's a good idea to advocate to people to sniff what they are tempted by, I would stay steer clear till you Know you can handle it.

My baby is only 20 months this week so we are not doing trick or treat either at our house or taking her. I think she is still too young. Our church is having a fall festival on the 29th so we are taking her to that. We will dress her up mostly for pictures and to take her to her memaws house probably on the 30th. We will not buy any candy. Our daughter will get some candy at daycare and at the church festival i'm sure which she will get a little of and the rest will get thrown away. That's what we did at Easter too. I gave her a few peices of candy here and there and the little packages of marshmallows and threw the rest away. We will both have to work on Halloween so we'll just be hunkered down in our house, lights off, pretending we aren't home. haha

Last year, I bought the stuff we liked so we could eat it if no one came. Guess what? No one came...we ate the candy. This year, I'm buying one bag of something I don't like. If no one comes, I won't eat it. If they do come, the kid closest to 7:30 gets what's left Then the lights will go dim... "I'll get you my pretty"

Re: How are you preparing to stay cheat-free for Halloween?

I'm not tempted at all. I'm all about the decorating and making interesting treats for the office, such as: Kitty Litter cake and bed pan cider.

Anyway, if I was tempted, I buy candy that I don't like or can't have. I'm allergic to chocolate so that's not tempting. I know whatever I get, my family will take care of it and it won't be in sight long enough for me to want any.

Coming from a country that doesn't really celebrate Halloween, I must say it sounds like so much fun.

What happens here is that every November 1st, people flock to cemeteries to visit dead relatives and stay with the graves the whole day. When I was a kid, I found it boooooring to go visit relatives who died before I was born. Now I find it depressing.

I have no problem visiting graves, but staying the whole day at the grave site is something I have not the stamina to do, especially when the cemetery is crowded.

Yea Mata, I would say that Halloween here is much more fun than hanging out at a gravesite all day would be~! But it seems nice to have a day to honor the dead, you know when you time comes at least once a year your family will think of you and spend time near where you RIP

Re: How are you preparing to stay cheat-free for Halloween?

Some ideas for Halloween, whether you have kids or not.

Why let this fun Holiday scare your waistline?

                        1) Take the kids and go do something fun! As 2big says, holidays are about people and not food. So taking the kids (in costume if they wish) bowling or playing laser tag is not only healthy, but it's also a fun memory they'll remember, even long after the candy is gone.

                        2) Buy the kids' candy from them. Offer $1.00 for the candybars and $.25 for everything else. Then toss the candy out or donate it to the food bank.

                        3) Give out slim jims for Halloween instead of candy. It's slightly healthier.

                        4) Give out toys from oriental trading company

                        5) Buy candy inly the day of Halloween. This way the family won't eat it before that date.

                        6) Buy candy no one likes in your family. This way after Halloween, no one is tempted to eat it.

                        7) When the kids bring their candy home, bag it up into small baggies, each with a date on it. Let them have a bag per day (or every so often). Mini-bagging keeps you out of the open bag they brought home and it also keeps you accountable, because you're tying those bags shut. Would you really take candy from your children?

Buy each child their own bag of candy instead of trick or treating, and spend the evening playing cards instead. If they like Snickers, buy them a bag of Snickers in lieu of going out for gobs and gobs of candy no one even likes. It can even be a small bag, or just a King-Sized candy bar.

                        9) Take the Trick-Or-Treating time to talk with kids and enjoy the night air. Find leaves. What phase is the moon in?

                        10) Have a bonfire for Halloween. Tell scary stories and spend the evening together, huddled under blankets, being thankful for togetherness. (Make sure there are no flammable Halloween costumes near the fire).

Thanks for bumping this...I couldn't find it!

And roast hotdogs and pieces of fruit and veggies over that bonfire. Fresh pinapple chunks, peaches, plums roast nicely. As do green or red peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, and yellow squash. (No sense wasting a cooking fire )

Well, Halloween isn't really celebrated here at all as you can imagine. I mean you can purchase some Halloween costumes, decorations in some of the stores i guess for Westerners, but thank god there isn't that all out thing here for temptation reasons... So I guess I won't be tempted at all at Halloween! I wish you all luck in resisting temptation though.
